Big Brother's listening: Microphones recording on Bethesda street (Photos)

Your first reaction to seeing microphones set up along Woodmont Avenue might be to expect a Montgomery County Council press conference on how we're leading the tech revolution in America, despite the county government having been caught still using Windows 2000 as their operating system in 2014. Then you notice another one high in the air.

Am I on? Am I on?

These microphones placed on Woodmont, near the "beer house" and former Bruce Variety building, might appear to be the latest government effort to monitor your activity. But they're actually measuring noise levels in the vicinity, according to a sign posted on one of them. A "noise measurement survey" is "in progress".

Prolly the whiners in the condos about nighttime noise. They rather banks and interior design stores go in than restaurants and entertainment venues.

I've long held the theory that every damned emergency vehicle is driven through Bethesda by hyper eight year old kids. I especially love it when there's, apparently, a five alarm fire somewhere at 3am and they all tear down what (at that time) is a deserted Arlington Rd with sirens blasting the whole time.

When not screaming down our streets, they're out in the trucks cruising for girls or picking up dinner at Chicken on the Run.

Noise from bars and night-life are the least of our sound pollution worries.

Who thought those were police mics?? Lol.

I love the way that fire, rescue and police cars all park in the driveway of the Fairmont Plaza when they're making a 7-11 run. That must drive the pearl-clutchers there crazy.

That road is too widen they should add street parking to narrow the road and dissuade illegal parked cars - police and fire included. Not to mention delivery trucks and the like that camp out there.

The "beer house" has a name, you know. Dunmor's Beer and Wine.

They wouldn't give you advertising $$$?
