Meanwhile, Trattoria Sorrento is temporarily closed until Thursday this week (August 20) on Cordell Avenue. Its neighbor, Faryab, remains closed for both a staff vacation and planned renovations. Reportedly, they are going to make some interior changes and roof repairs. They plan to reopen in two weeks or less, one source reports, but no official reopening date has been announced.

Steamers closes forever in Bethesda; Sorrento closed until Thursday; Faryab closed until? (Photos)
Steamers, a longstanding seafood restaurant at 4820 Auburn Avenue, has closed. The closure was announced in a sign posted outside of the restaurant. In the message, the restaurant's owners thanked patrons for 11 years of business. Signage has been removed from the building's exterior.

Thank god. Steamers was dreadful.
Now I can look forward to the three years of construction on a mixed use tall building identical to the others around that'll end up being suspiciously empty while at the same time pricing out Bistro LaZeez and/or collapsing its foundation. Yay!
It seems bad form to mention the short-term closing of the two nice restaurants in the same breath as the permanent closure of the sleazy one. Are you trying to insinuate something?
And no mention at all that Steamers closed because they surrendered their liquor licence because of repeated violations?
-Telling Dyer how to do his job since 2013
@ 7:40 AM - Or six months of construction to make a slightly newer but still crappy one or two story building that will perpetually carry a "Lease - Greenhill" sign on its door.
This would have been their seventh violation, I think. Which is hilarious. I love how indignant the owner is about it, as well. It's like a real life Bar Rescue.
Less fights and puddles of vomit than Black Finn or United Jerks, no blasting subwoofers like at Parva, but it definitely had the noisiest patrons of any bar or restaurant in Bethesda.
Woah! Hold on a minute! Where are all of the underaged kids of Bethesda going to get their Jello shots and cocaine?
I've heard references to underage drinking, but every time I looked in Steamers, it seemed like the clientele was primarily refugees from the old McDonald's Raw Bar.
FYI - Steamers was in business at that location for longer than 11 years, the current owners have operated it for the past 11.
Somehow, Batman is involved in the closure. I'm sure of it.
You left out a key piece to the story on Steamers. They were up for liquor license review board due to repeated violations, and at that hearing the owner said he just plans to shut down so no need to review the license.
@7:37 Yeah I'm surprised about that too. The Lord & Taylor case was a big win, and Dyer has done many installments on the state of White Flint so I'm not sure why he's ignoring this. It's a huge development in the situation because it's basically the courts calling out Lerner for not keeping the mall in good shape.
9:29: Trust me, I'll be commenting on that in the near future.
Trust Robert Dyer?
6:48: Everybody else does, except you, troll.
Everyone knew Steamers dealt coke and other drugs out the back door. The workers wouldn't even eat the food there. They would have food delivered from other establishments in Bethesda. The owner was a D-bag and treated women with no respect.
I couldn't agree more with the last comment (7:03 PM). I can't wait to see what he is going to do now that he can't hang out in own personal bar. Popcorn ready and waiting...
The voters of Montgomery County do not trust Dyer.
From the number of different commentors here, it's obviously more than just me.
Oh and from the number of voters who believed in and voted for you as well.
7:21/7:39: Most voters never even heard about me, my campaign ads or my debate performances, thanks to the MoCo political machine's control of the media. In that context, I did quite well.
1) "It's the MoCo Machine's lapdog media's fault that you don't know anything about me."
2) "If you don't know anything about me already, then I'm certainly not going to tell you."
1:09 AM I followed the campaign daily as of the Primaries last June. I watched the Post credit Leventhal for thoughts Robert voiced first. And that was only one of three times his name was even printed. There was ongoing coverage of the incumbants. They got interviews on tv; Rob's slot got canceled on at least one occasion. Folks here have even recently mentioned they didn't hear about him.
The disparity of exposure and media coverage between incumbants and everyone else saddened me as I think Robert is always consistently focused on what is going to help the community improve, for the community's sake and future. Someone the other day was saying, Tell us about yourself. I think he does, here. He takes the time to interact, he lets express divers opinions. He is tenacious, at time relentlessly so. The thing is, you want someone like that. When he is arguing against the formation of an entity with the authority to keep raising your taxes without caps, for example.
He already recorded his platform on youtube, and it is not hard to find:

Who is the anonymous guy (1:09AM) who wants to know so much more about Dyer?
(Does Prince of Petworth and local Post reporters have stalkers too?)
Everyone knows Robert and if you don't he has background info on the blog, was profiled by the Gazette, etc. He's an established person in the community, not a new arrival.
What did we know about our local Gazette writers, Patch writers or random Bethesda bloggers? Absolutely nothing. Most didn't even have photos. Using public art as your profile photo doesn't count :)
Dyer needs to learn more civility from our leading lights, like Councilmember Leventhal:

Dyer's shill can't even wait five minutes before responding, twice. LOL
@ 5:27 AM:
"...he lets express divers opinions."
"He is tenacious, at time relentlessly so..."
Is English your native tongue?
5:58: Neither can Riemer's shill. "LOL"
6:03 AM: Your point is that flawless grammar and lack of typos are of higher relevance than content conveyed?
I hope so. It would be pretty bigoted, taking a potshot at a Dyer supporter on the basis that English may be his or her second language.
Was it always called Steamers? i though it used to be something else.
Be a shame to see another high-rise go up in its place.

I went to that link and apparently Robert's platform is that he likes Taco Bell breakfast burritos. That's definitely taking a strong stand.
Sorry, my bad. Here is the correct link for Robert Dyer political speeches:

just saw Trey a couple of days ago... He is working as a bartender at Not Your Average Joes in Bethesda. All I gotta say is that he better be extra nice and provide excellent service.
