The gas pumps and Shell signage have been removed from the gas station at Old Georgetown Road and Woodmont Avenue in downtown Bethesda. Meanwhile, the adjacent house next door - which is also slated for demolition - is being cleared out.
Despite being across from a Metro station, both will be replaced by a small TD Bank building, in a move that puzzles urban planning buffs everywhere.

The number of gas stations in Bethesda has shrunk from about 17, 30 years ago, to 10, 15 years ago, to just 4 this year.
Yet those four aren't exactly overrun with customers waiting in line to buy gas.
Gas stations are overrated.
11:27: They're overrated until you run out of gas.
I've never run out of gas. You have to be pretty stupid for that to happen.
Presumably all these folks in Bethesda clogging streets with their huge SUVs are filling up at gas stations.
