Leggett's WSSC nominee was sentenced for DWI in 2007

T. Eloise Foster, Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett's nominee to the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, was sentenced for driving while impaired in Howard County in 2007. She was sentenced to unsupervised probation, alcohol counseling, 10 hours of community service, and fined $200, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Foster was pulled over by a Maryland state trooper on Interstate 95 in Howard in June 2007. She failed several sobriety tests and was charged. Foster was budget director for the state of Maryland at the time.

Leggett, who was a victim of a drunk driver himself in a 2009 crash, called for tightening drunk driving laws in December 2015. The County Council is scheduled to interview Foster Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM. They are then scheduled to confirm her appointment 55 minutes later.

"The Montgomery County Council joins our Police Chief in calling for the State of Maryland to strengthen our laws against drunk and impaired driving," Council President Nancy Floreen wrote to the Montgomery County delegation to the Maryland General Assembly in February of this year.

Drivers with interesting driving records seem to be joining WSSC often these days. The Washington Post reported that the agency's latest chief was involved in five accidents while driving WSSC vehicles. She totaled one of those WSSC vehicles in a rollover accident on the Capital Beltway, the Post reported.

Maybe he called an Uber

Being a far left progressive African American woman (just assuming) she is entitled to 9 free "get out of jail cards". It was the troopers fault, he profiled her or some BS like that was probably her defense. Not her serious drinking problem and dangerous erratic driving.

Does MoCo take DUI seriously or not?

Dyer needs to post his Uber receipt.

Looks like she was given Probation Before Judgement, and found not guilty after the probationary period. So no actual conviction. The Sun article (from 2007) clearly states that she received PBJ. A quick check on the Maryland Judiciary Case Search confirms this, and that she completed the probationary period successfully. I guess this is why the Post article from February did not mention this incident.

MoCo Dems know how to pick 'em.

Kumar P. Barve is another Democrat leading light who drove while intoxicated.

Poor judgement! And Barve still wants a promotion. Unbelievable.

Barve is a great example for the MoCo Young Democrats club!

4:13: Are you talking about the same site where only 10% of the stories have actually been about Bethesda? The one that tried to capitalize on the Clarksburg HS tragedy for cheap clicks by promising a Bethesda connection that article never delivered? Shameful. It's a good thing I'm "digging", because no other local news source has reported that Leggett and the Council are advancing political appointees who behave contrary to the standards they claim to support regarding drinking and driving.

Gotta get those clicks.
I'm surprised Hull isn't pretending to be in Los Angeles covering E3 again this year for the sake of clicks. Total fraudulent reporting.
Their fake coverage of Bethesda, the video game company- not the city, was a journalistic low point.

This is mean-spirited. The DUI took place 7 (!) years ago. If there has been no recurrence, it has no bearing on Ms. Foster's appointment to the WSSC.

Anonymous said...

Oops-- the DWI took place 9 (!!) years ago. My point stands: if there has been no recurrence, it has no bearing on Ms. Foster's appointment.

9:01/9:03 PM - And it wasn't even a "conviction".

Robert Dyer said...

The incident does have bearing when the elected officials making the nomination and voting on it have promoted themselves as advocates of cracking down on drunk driving. Just for civilians, or do the standards apply to political appointees, as well?

9:26: How do you get sentenced for something if you are not guilty?

Also, the PBJ involved DUI, not "DWI". More libel by Dyer. Sue! Sue! Sue! the lying Dyer.

The most libelous comments on this blog are from an anonymous poster. Just the act of posting certain types of things can be considered "Reckless disregard for the truth." A line crossed frequently by said anonymous poster.

I may disagree with you on this one, MrD. In this particular instance, the system worked well. From what I read, once caught, she admitted it and did everything right. And no 2nd offense, so I have to give her credit for that. That's not always the case.
Maybe the moral of the story is don't push for stricter laws if you're guilty of doing those things. Like drunk driving laws and "family values" campaigns.

7:01 AM Agreed. Calling Mr. Dyer every nasty name in the book is reckless and unsavory.
And the stalkerish comments are even worse.

Name calling is bad. Insinuations worse. Certain written statements don't need proof of "injury;" the words themselves are considered injurious enough to warrant a libel suit. Just sayin.

11:34 AM Please save your righteous indignation. You stand by and have no problem with folks calling Dyer a criminal (rapist, murderer, etc.), ill, crazy etc. just because they're competitors or have a different political opinion.

Get off your high horse please.

5:57: Please read the Baltimore Sun article that is linked - duh! - to in the above piece. It says DWI.

From the Sun article: "driving while impaired by alcohol".

Under Maryland Law, there are two charges for driving after having too much to drink:

1) Driving While Impaired (starts at .07% BAC)

2) Driving While Under the Influence (starts at.08%)

"Driving While Impaired" is the less serious of the two charges. It is equivalent to "DUI" in other states.

You have an obligation to get such details right before you publish your stories.

12:19PM Excuse me, I can't hear you over the sound of how wrong you are.

Reading comprehension. I was replying to and agreeing with the previous comment. Which was agreeing to MY previous comment at 7:01.

Careful, I believe it's your ignorance that is showing.

I'm glad Foster has gotten over her drinking and erratic driving issues. I'll still just make sure I leave the restaurant 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after her.

12:47: My article had the correct phrase - what is your complaint?

The MoCo Council is showing poor judgement yet again.

Published three hours before her confirmation. Why?
