Demolition update: Connor Building (Photos)

You can now see through the Connor Building, and you can also see into the interior and central arcade corridor. The commercial building is coming down to make way for the new Marriott headquarters and hotel, which are scheduled to deliver in 2022.

Ancient ruins. Long overdue for demolition and community improvement.

Is the Bethesda Court Hotel still open?

Wow it's really going to take 5 years to build the new building there?

Will they be tearing down the Bethesda Court hotel as well? Can't image it would stay right next to a Marriott hotel....or will that be a 2nd phase of demolition...HQ first...hotel later?

Everything on that block except Tastee and Houston.

1. Well first the sector plan has to be approved with the necessary height limits and densities. That probably won't happen until May or June.
2. Then the developers need to amend their sketch, preliminary, and site plans (or start over altogether since the new sector plan will be in place). That will take about a year.
3. Then they have to get financing and pull permits, which will take another year. 4. Construction will take at least 2.5 to 3 years given the enormous size of the underground garage as well as the office building.
4. Then the interior has to be fitted out and Marriott has to move thousands of employees and their office equipment in. Which will take between 3 and 6 months.

So really, 5 years is pretty optimistic. If the enter process is expedited (see: MGM National Harbor, which went up faster than any project in recent memory in this area) a 2022 is possible, but not by a huge margin.

@2:32. Thanks. Didn't realize how complicated it is. See, Dyer's commenters aren't only trolls!

I live right across the street and hear that mess daily. They start before 7:00 AM (sometimes at 6:45 AM) even though it's against county rules. Another five years of this?
