Hurricane Harvey hikes Bethesda gas prices

The price of regular gas is nearing $3 a gallon in Bethesda, and higher grades are well over $3, due to the impact of Hurricane Harvey on the oil industry in Texas - or at least, that's the excuse. A little-known fact among the general public is that big Wall Street banks like Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and J.P. Morgan actually own commodities like oil.

But not stopping there, some have been caught trying to control supplies of those commodities in order to affect their market prices. When you fill up this week, pay no attention to that crony globalist behind the curtain. Don't expect the Montgomery County Council to help - Councilmember Hans Riemer has reeled in tens of thousands of dollars in bizarre and unexplained out-of-state donations from Wall Street crooks and their K Street lobbyists. Shameful.

Remember when Dyer complained that Bethesda beat would talk about how major national events such as 13 reasons why and the connection to Bethesda schools were being used for boosting viewership? Now Dyer is using major national news in the same way Bethesda beat does, to inform residents how it affects them.

Hurricane Harvey is hiking gas prices EVERYWHERE.

It's pretty tacky to use the national disaster and people's suffering to further your agenda of disparaging the local County Council.

"Don't expect the Montgomery County Council to help"

How would they, or any local government, "help"? I'd love to hear what you would do if you were on the Council.

7:09 here. I was referring to the Shell station in Westbard, however I see that the station in the picture is the one next to Moribund MoCo Mall.

How do you expect Montgomery County to be able to control a global commodity like oil's price? Do you understand how supply and demand works? For someone who apparently understands the economy so much better than the council, you don't seem to.

You, Robert Dyer, have as much power over oil prices as they do. By your logic, I personally blame you, Robert Dyer, for these outrageous oil prices. Get it together!

The more expensive oil is, the easier it will be to convince people to switch to alternative fuels. Keep it up with these higher gas prices Montgomery Council, I appreciate you trying to save the environment!

Hey Dyer - could you please explain the difference between "Fortune 500 companies", which we need to woo, and "Wall Street", which is Satan incarnate?

Robert, I don't have time to listen to a YouTube video. Could you please write a list of the out-of-state contributors, and the amounts they countributed?

Anonymous said...

Yes, that is happening here. Although, Exxon Mobile in Houston is back online so prices will quickly adjust to pre-Hurricane levels.

I am a bit perplexed by Dyer's politics. It's usually Democrats who rail against the iniquities of Wall Street.

What exactly are you proposing that Montgomery Council do? Subsidize three price if gasoline like Venezuela, Iran, and Saudi Arabia do?

Anonymous said...

Shell lets you use Giant gas rewards. I save 30-50 cents per gallon that way.

Anonymous said...

Me too, 11:52. Especially if I'm in Laurel-with their prices so much lower and using the rewards.

Robert, if Hans Riemer had never been born, whom would you blame for your lifetime of miserable failure?

Looks like G. Money's comment noting that this is a campaign ad, not a news article, was deleted.

#DeletingDyer strikes again.

You know, the ethical thing to do would be to at least leave a note when a comment is deleted for violating the comment policy.

The other thing to do would be to provide readers with the details of this "comment policy" (which I suspect amount to little more than the whims of Mr. Dyer himself).

7:05: The article is about the gas prices in Bethesda, which are not the same as gas prices elsewhere. This is as hyperlocal as it gets, old sport.

10:16: And thus, why Trump won. Paul Ryan wanted Hillary.

7:33: Very simple - companies like Lockheed Martin and Volkswagen manufacture things using American workers. In contrast, many (not all) on Wall Street use arcane financial schemes to drain the life force out of every upper-middle-to-lower-class man, woman and child, - even wiping out whole towns by draining industrial companies of capital, and shipping the jobs overseas, like Hans Riemer's sugar daddies did (including at least one factory right here in Maryland) - and facilitate a transfer of capital from the 99% to the 1% at the top.

5:08: I deleted a defamatory comment that falsely claimed I linked to a video that asked for political contributions. There is no such message in the Hans Riemer's Wall Street Money Machine video, just a devastating expose of Riemer's mysterious and corrupt out-of-state financiers.

? ? ? ? ? Scratching my head on that one.

Robert, have you ever considered running as an Independent? You wouldn't have to pound the square peg of your political positions into the round hole of the GOP platform. And as an Independent, you'd probably have a better chance of being elected than a Republican in MoCo.

Anonymous said...

This surpasses my expectations.

Gas prices have spiked everywhere in the country. If you let MoCo, you would see prices are higher than normal everywhere. It has already eclipsed $3.00 in other parts of the country. You put a local spin on national news. This is not hyperlocal news.

Robert Dyer said...

5:33: Wrong - the price of gas in Bethesda is indeed hyperlocal news. I did leave MoCo over the weekend, and saw prices much lower outside of our County. Sad!

"I did leave MoCo over the weekend, and saw prices much lower outside of our County. Sad!"

Where did you go? Why so secretive?

Obviously not to the West Coast or anywhere north of the Mason-Dixon Line.

First of all, once you leave the DC "radius" you don't have the extra urban taxes, which is why prices are lower in Frederick, Laurel, Olney. Then there's the state gas tax differences between DC, ND, VA, DE, WV.

I'll guess the went to the beach. Labor Day weekend.
Or Berkeley Springs, WV. The Troubadour re-opened. Big deal.

HYPERLOCAL UPDATE: The sun rose in Bethesda this morning!

Since the sun rises at a slightly different time in Bethesda compared to other areas, this update qualifies as HYPERLOCAL!

Hm. If Trump actually meant what he said about Wall Street, then why are Gary Cohn and Steve Mnuchin in the top two economic positions in his Administration? Why is one of his priorities unwinding Dodd-Frank?

Your comment that Paul Ryan wanted Hillary to win only goes to show that you don't align yourself with the GOP.

7:02 AM - Also, since gas stations aren't living rent-free in Mom's basement, they have to pay higher rents in Bethesda than they do in rural Virginia or Texas.

I bet gas is cheap in Fredericksburg.

1:16: You have a very valid point. Frankly, I don't know. I certainly didn't support either of those choices. As he's finding now, it was an error to bring in so many globalists - and strangely, so many from Goldman Sachs, in particular - rather than Trump loyalists Blankfein is out there attacking the American president on foreign soil, along with his puppet John McCain. That's anti-American. Why would you have this guy's agents in the Oval Office?

You better believe Ryan wanted Hillary. So did flake Jeff Flake and all those other globalist NeverTrump traitors. Ryan passed Obama budgets the last several years, and you've now seen that he actually is one of the strongest supporters of Obamacare, DACA, and so many other Obama policies.
