3rd car in 3 days stolen from same Bethesda neighborhood

Auto thieves made it a trifecta in the Oakwood Knolls area of Bethesda on Memorial Day. A third vehicle was stolen from the community in as many days on Monday. The latest theft was reported in the 6400 block of Kirby Road in Oakwood Knolls at 7:32 AM, yesterday. Two other cars were stolen from the neighborhood on Saturday.

A fourth car was stolen in the 8100 block of Thoreau Drive in the nearby West Bethesda Park neighborhood, on the other side of Thomas W. Pyle Middle School over the weekend. In that case, the thieves drove the vehicle around another car parked behind it in the driveway, and across the victim's lawn, to make the getaway. It is plural "thieves," because it takes a group to steal more than one car at the same time, and that is increasingly the case in Bethesda in recent years. Several vehicles in Oakwood Knolls were also rummaged through over the weekend, with property stolen from some.

If people aren't putting both keys in Faraday pouches everytime they walk into their homes you might as well leave the keys in the car,

You'd think the police might want to setup a sting in that area.

I'm no longer surprised that I'm not surprised.

You with the lawn signs and bumper stickers voted for this. Enjoy it.

"Montgomery County Police Department’s auto theft unit was disbanded earlier this year because of FY 2021 budget cuts."

The corrupt MoCo Council simply doesn't care. Neither do the people that voted for them.

not necessary if you LOCK YOUR CAR!

These neighborhoods that are hit night after night need to hire private security like Kenwood.

Back in the day, the only "crime" Bethesda residents had was what the Gazette used to call "gypsies" scamming residents and massage parlor antics. I miss those days.

10:45 AM must not drive a car built in the last 10-15 years or nobody wants that car. Do your own research on proximity keys and get back to us with a response that makes sense.

@12:15 "Back in the day," Bethesda didn't have Metro or hi-rises, two-bite tacos for [inflation adjusted] $5+ or thousands of people flocking to what multiple surveys site as one of the most expensive areas in the country. Back in the day Bethesda didn't have pretentions of grandeur; no aspirations to be the Manhattan of Maryland. Small town, small-town crime; big, bustling, glitzy, urban city --big-city crime.

@9:25 AM: The corrupt MoCo Cartel (and the people who voted for them) don't want to give them the necessary funding to be able to do that.

@7:02 - That's exactly how these creeps are stealing cars. Automakers need to figure something out because the easy to acquire devices clone the key fob signal and they simply drive the car away. I am dumb enough to be buying a new SUV with these Biden gas prices and of course, it has a key fob, my first. Thank you for mentioning these pouches and boxes that block the signal from being grabbed out of thin air. You're right, whoever does not use those enclosures is asking for their car to be taken.
