Starbucks signs on to stay on at Westbard Square in Bethesda + construction update (Photos)

Starbucks
is staying in the Westbard neighborhood. The popular coffee shop in the Westwood Shopping Center will make the transition to the new Westbard Square development. It has leased a 2,297-square-foot storefront in the new Giant retail building that is expected to be completed this fall. This is a major relief to Starbucks fans in the community.

Starbucks joins anchor tenant Giant, Westwood Barber Shop, and Voorthuis Opticians as the four businesses from the existing shopping center to return in the new development. All tenants in the center have been told they must vacate the premises by November 30, 2023, according to a source familiar with the situation. A second source reports that at least one business has requested to stay through December 31, because the prime holiday shopping season is their most-profitable month of the year, but that property owner Regency Centers has not yet responded to their request.

Here's a look at the current state of progress at the new Westbard Square development:

I'm told the storefront on the far left of the
ground level will be the location of
Westwood Barber Shop

Are these stores signing on to the new Giant building for storespace? What is happening to the current building space they are inhabiting? Is that being torn down for more buildings?

12:27: Yes, ground floor of new Giant building. Existing strip mall will be demolished sometime after Novenber 30, replaced with apartment building.
