Two longtime local businesses will make the transition from the existing Westwood Shopping Center to the new Westbard Square development at 5400 Westbard Avenue in Bethesda. The venerable Westwood Barber Shop and Voorthuis Opticians are leasing ground floor spaces in the new Phase 1 building of the development, which will be anchored by a Giant grocery store. They do not yet appear on the leasing map of the Westbard Square website, however.
Nearby residents have been watching closely to see how many of the family-run small businesses at Westwood will be able to stay, once the rest of the strip center is demolished in the next two years. The Giant building is currently in the home stretch of construction, and the existing Giant grocery store and other businesses remain open as that work continues.

Phung Dinh is the owner of the Westbard Barbershop, and she has a wonderful story of an immigrant succeeding in America. She is going through a difficult time during this transition. I hope she succeeds.!
MoCo is not helping with its ridiculous road closures around the shopping center.
