La Panetteria space for lease

The restaurant space currently occupied by La Panetteria at 4921 Cordell Avenue is now available for lease, according to an online listing. A longtime Italian restaurant in downtown Bethesda, La Panetteria is still in operation. The listing claims the space will be available in 90 days.

An offer of a space for lease does not necessarily mean a tenant is going out of business or planning to close. Landlords will sometimes put a space on the market to see if they can get a tenant who can or will pay a higher rent, for example. This has actually happened several times downtown in recent years.

What did Rory Coakley say when you contacted him?
Did La Panetteria provide any clues?

Which places has had this happen previously?

5:21: I would only need to contact someone if A) I was going to lease the space, or B) English was not my first language, as the listing is quite clear. The entire ground floor of the building next to Black's was offered for lease early last year, and the tenants remain in business a year later. Just one example of someone testing the market.

No, as a journalist, you would strive to get the whole story by contacting those involved.

Why the slam about English as a first language? That's rather rude. FYI

But...that would involve contacting a live person in the Daytime Economy.

As we've seen with other media outlets' reports on Sears, Quincy's, Pizza Pass and Bethesda Barbecue, etc. it's best to stick with the facts as I've done here. Troll boy here doesn't seem to recall that some businesses have even falsely posted that they are closing in some cases, while many others on the verge of closure have sworn up and down that they aren't closing.

5:56: And it's still open today, moron. The media report you praised was completely false, and claimed that Sears was closing early last year. Punch yourself.

Why the slam about English as a first language?
It seems like such an unnecessary insult and completely out of context with the conversation. I know many folks, as I'm sure many of your readers do to, where English is not their first language, but quite honestly, they could quiet us all with their intellect and reading comprehension.

Kindness begins at home, Mr Dyer.

Well, that didn't take long to denigrate into insults and recommendations of violence.

Again, kindness begins at home, Robert Dyer.

BB's report said that Sears had filed a WARN notice with the State of Maryland last January. What was false about that?

Also, your date for Sears closing (yes, it is closing) is already out of date.

Anna,, I think you read too much into the English as a first language comment...he simply was saying he didn’t need clarification of what the listing said as written, since it was in English. If one were not proficient in English, and trying to comprehend something written in English, it makes sense that that person may need furtherclarification/translation help.

6:10: Wrong again. I was first to report the new closing date of February, as well as the only news outlet to report on the closing sale. #scooped

Meanwhile, you're there in a dark room hunched over a keyboard, posting anonymous troll comments and looking up the addresses of my family members, and making threats against me and my family.

Do you not realize how creepy and deranged you appear to the readers of this site, and that you are facing 2 years in federal prison for each instance of threat, stalking and harassment?

I doubt many of the well heeled potomac and chevy chase readers of Bethesda Magazine have been in a Sears.

So, I'll give them a pass for getting the year wrong on the closure. And for not contacting a live person during daylight hours. Sears forced them to retract.

I'm getting some popcorn as we all step back and watch the man who posts as "Anna" descend into madness. Train wreck!

Robert, I'm not sure why you gave such a hostile response to Anna's initial question. A call to the owner of La Panatteria seems like a logical step when reporting a story. If the business is closing, you'd be able to inform us of that. If the landlord is testing the waters to see if they can charge higher rent, then we'd know that as well.

How very sad for you.
If I was Robert Dyer, I'd comment that "your IQ is smaller than your belt size."
But I'm not Dyer. And I prefer telling the truth and not making personal attacks at anonymous people.

9:57AM For all you know, 99% of my comments have been trying to help Dyer.

Your bias against me is obvious. That's your business. When you lie about me, it becomes my business.

Here's a novel idea...why don't YOU stop harassing ME?

11:15am all you do is try and provoke Dyer. For years.

And then complain about Dyer's response. Pro tip: Stop trying to provoke him.

If you act like a fool, you'll probably be treated as such.

How many times do you hit the F5 key in a single day?

Robert Dyer said...

8:15: I made the point in my comments that many businesses (Pizza Pass, Bethesda BBQ, etc.) will make false statements because they don't want to announce they are closing before the last second. So again, I prefer to stick to the facts, rather than pad stories with conjecture and deception. The facts are in this report. Space listed. 90 days.
