Once getting a permit from Montgomery County, the contractor repairing the South Street Steaks building on Cordell Avenue has made short work of things. The restaurant has been closed for months after a car struck the building in 2018.
Work appears to be complete on the load-bearing exterior wall that was hit by the vehicle. Workers could be seen on the roof during the day on Wednesday, and external support beams were removed from the building. The project is scheduled for completion this month.

Wow, “load-bearing exterior wall”! It sounds like you know a bit about construction. Thanks for the update.
No one cares for one, simple reason, the place sells the worst example of cheesesteak within 50 miles of their door. How in the world do they, did they, make any money? Late night munchies only won't keep you in business with that rent.
7:03 AM - I've been by there many a time on Friday or Saturday night (late) and that place is dead, even then. The food SUCKS!
It was decent when it first opened with original owners. That entire block can be bulldozed by the way. Every single place on that block is beyond terrible.
8:00 AM Harp & Fiddle & Cal Tort?
Harp and Fiddle might be ok for pub grub. I was only referring to the South Street Steak side of the block. Cal Tort is very good.
8:09 AM bulldoze Brickside & MOMO too?
They had the market cornered on late-night take-out eats, especially on weeknights. They were also on UberEats. Try ordering a hot meal from any place at 10:30pm on Wednesday -- South Street Steaks was one of the few open then. On Fridays they were open until 3am, way past any other take-out place in Bethesda.
I miss SSS so much. I was sad when the one in Gaithersburg closed, and now I've been wanting a cheesesteak for months. Can't find one I like more than this one. Even in Philly :(
