Sugarfina closes at Bethesda Row

The shelves have been becoming increasingly-bare at Sugarfina in recent days. Last evening a sign stating, "CLOSED," was taped to the front window. No clear statement that the store has closed permanently was given, nor any explanation for the closure.
What is known as of press time is that the upscale candy store chain filed for bankruptcy last week, and announced it would be closing six stores as part of the filing, according to Total Retail's Kristina Stidham. Its biggest creditor is Goldman Sachs.

Goldman Sachs will not replace BTB

Wonder if BTB and his little helper are advising Jerome Powell at his home in Chevy Chase on the collapsing Repo market?

Reason: This is the most educated zip code in the area and you'd have to be pretty stupid to pay $12 for a little box of gummies.

As with so many businesses that fail here...duh.

That's a first. Dyer actually acknowledge's larger issues at play instead of his kneejerk "moribund", "blame Hans", or some other nonsense. There's hope for this blog yet.

Actually I’m glad they are closing, so something I might actually use could move in. Perhaps they were nice for a wedding gift bag, but it doesn’t seem like their product had a strong base of users.

The new Neuhaus Belgian Chocolate Store on Bethesda Lane also has expensive candy, but buying three or four individual pieces of very delicious chocolate is about the same cost as a gelato, and a nice treat when strolling around. I hope they figure out how to sell Belgian Hot Chocolate when it gets cooler. That would be a great destination treat during a blustery winter evening.

Being the mayor of Bethesda and a future council member you should be out walking the streets of Bethesda every day. Meeting people, shopping, dining at restaurants and going out for drinks with your supporters.

You should be spending at Bethesda establishments and getting your friends to do so as well. Do your part. Do you do that?

Robbie didn't blame this on the MoCo Cartel shutting down Regal? I'm amazed.

7:31 AM All the free ethnic food and booze other local bloggers are consuming is vital to the people economy. Need a free urgent care center coupon as well!

7:27: How do you think I got to be Mayor of Bethesda, Einstein, and report all of this news?

This is the top site promoting Bethesda business, and also advocating for changes local business owners want but aren't getting, like reducing the cost burden the County Council puts on businesses - and ending the government liquor monopoly.

Not to mention being the only media voice of reason about the desperate need to bring back a cineplex and nightlife to downtown Bethesda.

Think about it.

"How do you think I got to be Mayor of Bethesda, Einstein?"

This is an example of a "loaded question".

Did the county's liquor monopoly affect the sale of their liquor-infused candies?

I'm glad Sugarfina closed. They were very cockey thinking they could open over 20+ stores in over 2-3 years. That shows lack of business sense. The candy was over priced, and management was terrible. Steven Cavagal was the worst manager ever. He would talk about the sales associates behind their back and turn the staff against each other. He gossiped a lot, and it was not good for sales. Staff stealing money out of the register and HR did nothing about it. Just terrlble management and over priced candy. Hope they stay closed. Gummies should not cost $7-8.50 per cube.
