7000 Wisconsin construction set to begin soon in downtown Bethesda
Redevelopment of 6936-7000 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda is moving forward. The developer is now pulling construction permits for the 12-story residential building. It will replace the existing Orvis and Mattress Firm buildings.

Should be a nice new development. I wonder if there will be any ground floor retail included in the design.
Nice to see more density on the south end of downtown. With the new Red Line Entrance and Purple Line Station opening soon, it opens up lots more of the transit walk-shed in Bethesda. I bet the northern end of that block is next, especially with Audi moving out. There was a rumor that some of the apartments west of that block might soon be rebuilt with a higher density.
Great. Fewer restaurants and retail, but more housing. Bethesda is unbearably boring.
The project does indeed include a large commercial space on the ground floor facing Wisconsin. Outdoor dining is also possible along one side of the covered through block connection. Current plans also show a separate elevator that can be accessed from the exterior, along the passage, so some commercial parking might be planned below grade. Originally, I don’t think they planned on providing access to any parking except for residents.
