Bethesda construction update: Marriott International HQ and hotel (Photos)

The exterior accent lighting made its debut this week at the future Marriott International headquarters and hotel at 7750 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda. Here is a daytime update on the construction progress. Now that attention is turning to the building interiors, rand* construction corporation is handling the interior fit-out for the office portion of the project. Outdoors, the pedestrian plaza between the two buildings is the major focus. Each building's green roof is now fully completed.

Something iconic about that first photo: "Old(er) Bethesda Literally Overshadowed by New(er) Bethesda". Might want to keep that one on hand to illustrate this theme going forward.

The photo just makes me pissed old Bethesda - specially the Woodmont Grill owner - stood in the way of new Bethesda. Maybe once they eventually close the county can step in and turn the corner into a pocket park that doesn't look so crappy.

Wonder if the diner will ever get their old 24-7 hours back. Part of the charm is gone.

What happens to the wall of glass when Woodmont Grill and the Diner inevitably redevelop and want to build 20 stories to the property line on all sides?

@8:12: If the diner and woodmont grill had not held out, the Marriott building probably would have been shorter, so ultimately this arrangement will yield more density.
