Battery Lane apartment broken into
An apartment on Battery Lane was broken into on Wednesday morning, November 17, 2021. Police were called to an apartment building in the 4900 block of Battery at 11:22 AM to investigate a forced-entry burglary, according to crime data.

Although we don't know the facts about this specific incident, I don't understand why people who have units with windows accessible from ground level don't put bars on them to prevent entry. Too many ground level units on that block with unprotected windows that are accessible from the street.
With respect, reporting a many months-long sustained series of car thefts is legitimate --alarming!-- news, but posting something like this does nothing to bolster the case that MCPD is underfunded/understaffed/overwhelmed. I have listened on scanners to the county police's Bethesda district since the 1980s, and there have always, always, *always* been residential burglaries, just as there are in every jurisdiction in the county, state, and country. This isn't news, this is trying to fan the flames.

How is the county going to take down the building on Wisconsin and Hampden Lanes, next to Tatte? Also, what is happening to the other side of the street on Hampden Lane between Wisconsin and Bethesda Ave. All the stores are closed and part of the area is alreeady roped off. thank you.
@6:06 Call was initially dispatched at 11:21:57 for a burglary that had just been reported at that address, but which had occurred ca. five minutes earlier. I can tell you the two sector cars that responded if you like, too. There is no lookout broadcast, no mention in any of the radio traffic of this having been a home invasion, no mention of weapons -- your assertion "they would be dead"-- no mention of number of perpetrators --your using "they," unless you are being politically correct and honoring the thief's preferred pronouns. I know all this not because I have an excellent memory, but because of the website OpenMhZ, which allows users to bring up the actual radio traffic from already dispatched calls.
Unless you have sharable evidence to the contrary, I suspect your narrative is fabricated to stoke fear among the readers of Robert's site.
@6:16 AM: Interior demolition of the building on Wisconsin/Hampden Lane next to Tatte has already been completed. You can see that it's been gutted when looking at the southern face of the building. Demolition experts will be able to bring the building down safely.
The old gas station was supposed to be developed into a senior living facility: http://robertdyer.blogspot.com/2019/09/7340-wisconsin-ave-developer-proposes.html That fell through because of the Covid Pandemic.
The other properties to the west of it are in the process of being redeveloped. Robert has discussed this on his Blog.
To anonymous about bars on ground-level units: Most of the buildings on Battery Lane are rentals, so wouldn't that be the responsibility of the management, not the residents? My guess is bars on windows, while a preventive or deterrent measure as far as burglaries, might be seen as negative (= crime) and costly.
