Signage for two restaurants at the new Marriott Bethesda Downtown hotel at 7707 Woodmont Avenue was installed on Tuesday. Seventh State will be the main, lobby-level restaurant, and Hip Flask will be a rooftop bar serving craft cocktails and small plates. Neither sign was lit yet. The hotel is scheduled to open in January.

I don't suppose there's any suggestion of an old-fashioned Hot Shoppes anywhere in evidence. Probably too prole for the New and Glamorized Bethesda, I guess.

Pity.

Any word if the CAFE, with signage visible on Woodmont, in the base of the Marriott HQ tower, will be open to the public, or is it just for Marriott employees? It seems odd that they would need a sign if it’s only a coffee station for employees.

It still seems they are missing a huge opportunity to honor their past, by not opening a Hot Shoppes, or at least a Root Beer stand.

All hail Hot Shoppes! Hopefully they have root beer on the menu at least.
