The Mexican-cuisine-with-upscale-cocktails market in downtown Bethesda is about to get even more crowded. La Catrina Lounge will be opening at 4935 Cordell Avenue, in the large restaurant building formerly home to Tragara and George's Chophouse. The spacious, 2-floor layout means the Day-of-the-Dead-themed lounge may have more potential as a nightspot than some of the smaller taco-and-tequila storefronts in town, the latest being Mexicue, Chaia and Tacombi. I noticed about a week ago that the "for lease" sign on the 4935 building had vanished, and this is welcome news, with the loss of twenty nightspots downtown over the last decade.

I bet Caddie's, which has become known as a Hispanic/Latino hangout after 10 pm, isn't amused.
I've said before, coffee places, taco joints and french cafe's. Unreal. Can't we get any other type of place in town? You know what would do very well? Hard Times Cafe. That really left a void when they closed. Casual, good pub grub, family-friendly and not that expensive.
@7:01AM ROTFLMAO! Seriously? HTC was a disaster from the way it was mismanaged throughout. Do you see any "Chili" joints competing for space anywhere in the DMV? NO! There is no demand for a chili restaurant, not even when your name is Chili's. Grab a can of Hormel and plop your butt in front of the TV, enjoy.

8:54 - You don't seem to understand that HT was much more than a chili parlor. And I said a place like that.
8:47 - The very first and original Hard Times in Old Towne is still doing well after these many years. There are also a handful of other locations similarly serving happy customers. The one on Cherry Hill Road in College Park does really well. So, you're completely wrong on your statement about no one wants a chili parlor anywhere in the area. You're welcome.
Caddies and Gringos will survive.
