Bethesda Row Apple Store security team meets after armed robbery (Photos)

The security team at the Bethesda Row Apple Store held a meeting after the store closed last night, in the wake of Saturday afternoon's armed robbery there. Montgomery County police were called to the store at 5:59 PM, Saturday, October 22, 2022. Five police cruisers responded to the report of an armed robbery, and all customers were evacuated from the store. No injuries were reported.

According to DC Realtime News on Twitter, a suspect brandishing a golden Glock handgun with an extended magazine entered the store, and was able to leave with three Mac computers. Montgomery County police have not yet issued a press release, suspect description, or surveillance footage of the incident as of this writing.

I am curious. Are computers traceable by serial numbers etc if someone tries to use it?
I remember an activation process with my lap top. How can that happen on a hot machine?

This is an absolute outrage. Never, ever in this area have we seen this type of violent and brazen crime not to this level at least. The Lululemon crime next door was beyond horrific but was very much isolated. Things are about to get much, much worse. Wes Moore is Far Left. We appreciate and honor his service to our nation in the military. But when you have a fundraiser out of town hosted by Spike Lee, you know what's about to be offered under this leadership. More shockingly, is the fact the Marc Elrich is going to be reelected possibly in landslide fashion. Folks must employ situational awareness everywhere and immediately. And consider all self defense protections. Is carrying a firearm for everyone? Of course not and it's a huge responsibility. But at least SCOTUS paved the way for Marylanders to use force to protect live and property. This is so awful I just can't believe it. Lastly, if it's not July 4th, those pop sounds you're hearing aren't fireworks, they're gun shots. Pray that thins gets better.

Watch for the Apple Store to initiate an "appointment only" policy. Not unlike during Covid, the store will be locked and customers will line up and only be let in one appointment at a time. Thanks Elrich & Co.

Oh the HORROR! CLUTCH MY PEARLS AND PRAY!! You people are the MAGAt minority in the MoCo society. You can't deal with what is happening even in the precious state of VA, yet along in your own backyard, without screaming leftie, leftist, far left. GTFO if you can't stand the leadership. You RWNJs are the problem. LEAVE NOW!

@6:44 AM: Assuming these were Demo computers on display, they're trackable and lockable via "Find My" which is available to all Apple customers or by other internal loss prevention tools that Apple has. I'm sure Apple had a record of machine information (serial numbers, etc.) for the computers they had on display. I'm sure they've already been bricked or will be if they ever connect to the internet. Hopefully they were tracked to a specific location before they were bricked.

@6:45 AM: Tens of thousands of Wear & Carry Permits are in the queue now. Things won't get better in MoCo until there's leadership that takes public safety seriously and at least doubles the size of the MoCo Police Force. It's half the size it should be for a County of this size/population. Yes, the County Council knows this because they receive regular public reports from the MoCo police which tell them that, but they don't care and don't do anything about it.

@6:46 AM: Apple is very protective of their brand and shopping experience for customers. I guarantee that this incident reached the executive level in Cupertino. They'll do what they feel they need to do to protect their customers on their property, up to and including closing the store entirely and leaving town. I'm not kidding.

We've seen this type of enter, grab stuff and run out theft in other cities, now it's here.

Security won't intervene and store staff certainly didn't sign up for physical altercations.

Funny thing how security eyeballs everyone just looking at phones but are neutered when a guy grabs merchandise and walks out.

@7:44 AM: Nothing says "we must protect democracy" like promoting one-party rule to the point that you fear the other party in the minority might win an election and legitimately take elected office in your party's place. Knowing you, you probably got your car stolen and still voted for Elrich anyway.

7:59 - No, they don't do anything about it. And despite gunfire and robberies on Bethesda Row, Marc Elrich and any other county official on the ballot will all be reelected. It's really amazing the cluelessness and rigid ideology of this electorate. Rubber stamp no matter what.

If any store has great high-resolution in-store surveillance cameras, I'd figure Apple would.

Elrich himself could have stuffed iPhones in his pants and run out of the Apple Store and still be re-elected by a wide margin. Sad to say, but the facts.

So... several days later and no footage? I'm surprised a customer didn't at least film the crime.

8:02 - Apple can leave, we'll survive.

@11:39 AM: No doubt they do

The robber was armed brandishing a golden Glock with extended mag. Apple Security and staff are unarmed

Why is everyone making a robbery story political gtfo

JAC said...

5:39 - Mr. Elrich, watch your language.

@5:39 PM: This robbery story is a political issue because it's the policies and decisions of the one-party Democrat leadership of Montgomery County that have turned it into a permissive crime environment where something like this is happening: A broad daylight armed robbery in front of hundreds of people inside an Apple Store on Bethesda Row.

It's a political issue because it's been one-party Democrat rule in MoCo for years. That's an indisputable fact.

It's a political issue because it's the fault of MoCo's all-democrat Leadership that the MoCo Police Force is less than half the size of what it should be for a County this size. That is an indisputable fact.

It's a political issue because the police regularly report to the all-democrat County Leadership on crime trends and police staffing, and the all-democrat County Leadership has shown no interest or willingness to sufficiently increase the size of the Force to address the rampant violent crime which is now occurring across the County.

This recent Report to the County Council speaks for itself: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/council/Resources/Files/agenda/cm/2022/20220131/20220131_PS2.pdf

"The Committee has received regular updates on Police staffing and is well aware that while the Department’s staff has historically been lower than the average for similarly-sized jurisdictions, Montgomery County continued to have relatively low crime rates. After taking significant budget cuts during the great recession, Police staffing increased slowly over the past 10 years, from 1,159 authorized sworn positions in FY12 to a high of 1,306 in FY21."

............

"For FY22, MCPD has an authorized sworn complement of 1,281 officers. This number reflects 1.2 officers per 1,000 residents. It is significantly lower than the average 2.8 officers per capita reported for counties, and the 2.5 officers per capita reported for suburban areas. While per capita staffing is just one measure of police department strength, it is important to note that MCPD’s per capita staffing has remained about 1.2 for almost 20 years."

It's a deliberate policy of the all-democrat County Leadership not to sufficiently increase the size of the police force to address the current violent crime wave that the County is facing. In fact, it was a deliberate decision by the all-democrat County Leadership to disband the Auto Theft Unit during a stolen car wave due to FY 2021 budget cuts: https://wtop.com/montgomery-county/2021/10/montgomery-co-man-recovers-his-own-stolen-car-from-dc/

"Montgomery County Police Department’s auto theft unit was disbanded earlier this year because of FY 2021 budget cuts."

Make that make sense.

Everything about this is a political issue and the all-Democrat County Leadership owns all of it.

Unfortunately 5:39 needs a grade school explanation.

Democrats, (who are fully in charge in Montgomey County), release those arrested for crimes, many times repeatedly, with little or no bail. Those criminals now understand there are essentially no consequences for bad behavior so commit more crime. See a pattern here?

Then like any liberal questioned on their decisions completely forget or just blatantly lie taking zero responsibility and even blaming the other side who have no control whatsoever.

In two-weeks a reckoning is coming.

JAC said...

11:02 - I have heard from a federal law enforcement official that the vast majority of these brazen crooks are coming from PG. What a shocker. You mention two weeks when Elrich is reelected?

JAC said...

8:03 - Yes, the Purple Line is and was a boondoggle. They will not be able to get even close to their ridership goals. And the other fallout? As you suggest, it will ruin Bethesda will crime like we've never seen before. It's already happening as we're discussing here. Get the Kimber pistol style pepper spray gun. It fits easily in a woman's purse or even in your front pocket. Situational Awareness all the time - when getting gas, shopping, everywhere. Wait til Elrich gets in for another 4 years.

@6:30 AM: The Kimber pepper spray gun is nice.

JAC said...

9:40 - yes it is and under 40.00. 100% legal right out of the packaging.
