A resurfacing project is underway on Old Georgetown Road between the Capital Beltway and Nicholson Lane. Expect lane closures on that stretch outside of rush hours on weekdays. The project is expected to be completed by January, and will also convert one travel lane in each direction into a protected bike lane. Needless to say, if you are concerned about your car getting scratched by debris, take an alternative route during this period.

Wait what? They are bike laning this stretch of old georgetown road too? Totally unnecessary. Also how does it take two and a half months to repave a road? Crazy to me.
Yep. As already discussed, that's the next stretch to be forever changed and forever ruined. Traffic heading south into Bethesda is already a nightmare. I see it every day. Traffic will now be jammed up to Wildwood heading into town. For how many bikes per week? Very few. You still have a chance to bring much needed sense to MoCo. Elect Sully Reardon.
It's two miles of 3 lane roads that are undergoing a conversion that includes adding a protected bike lane. Only one lane can be worked on at a time for a 4 hour period during the day and overnight. In your professional opinion, how long should it take 7:55? Go ahead and outbid the current contractor if you think you can do it faster at the same cost. If not, close your whiny mouth and let the rest of us do everything for you in peace.
I hear they are thinking of taking a lane on the inner and outer loop of the Beltway for bike lanes and adding HOB (high occupancy bike) tandem bike lanes, and a reversible Toll Bike Lane on I-270 as well. MoCo is considering changing school buses to student powered bike trucks similar to those bike bars. The free Bethesda Circulator Buses are being replaced by free (red) unicycles.
But you aren't doing it for me in peace. That's the problem. You are tearing up a road I use nearly every day for 3 months and effecting my daily life. That's the complaint. Why can it only be worked for a 4 hour period each day? Genuinely asking.
2:55 - Very, very cleverly written. Made my night
oh god help us, this city council is truly abhorrent. A bike lane for a road that carries 40,000 cars a day and a dozen bikes. There is no pragmatism only ideology at work here. Ban bikes from Old Georgetown is a safe solution for drivers and bikers. But instead they continue to erode the quality of life. Of course most of the bureaucrats and council members don't live here. What a terrible place to live

Thank you for keeping us informed!
My favorite spot on the web.
The slower work of single lane closures and mid-day work hours are precisely to mitigate the impact on people who use the road when it is at peak capacity.
I'm so sorry workers have to maintain the road for you. That must be really hard to possibly witness.
7:17 - All due respect, you're way off base and missing entirely the issue here. These are called roads not rails to trails and not parks. If you're part of the anti car movement, fine. I just hope you don't own a vehicle cause most of us do even avid cyclists. People need to get to places and live their lives. But cars are never going away. This insanity is designed to try and force that. It doesn't make it better but much worse. Any how about the Green Movement? Every other car around lower MoCo is a Tesla so you tell me.
For the last several years, the quality of life in MoCo has been eroding at a slow and steady pace. Since covid, that erosion has increasingly picked up the pace and it's now rapidly becoming very painful to live here. They have the pedal to the metal and common sense OR concerns of citizens be damned. You see, the Left knows best how you should live.
Now that this project is nearing completion, I'd like to re-mention how absolutely moronic this change is. Old Georgetown Road is now down to two thru lanes heading north at Tuckerman Lane. The bike lane is absurdly wide, and the road markings make no sense on multiple occasions. Not that it will do a thing, but Who is/are the appropriate person/people to complain to about this stupid change?
11:51, thank you! I have already been stuck in that mess and actually was on Old Geo'twn during the bike lane installation and traffic was snarled. Everyone should be outraged as they've ruined this entire corridor. We all need to complain because I'm actually not sure it's possible that this will last long term. It's almost Christmas and that makes the traffic extra heavy. But long term, you can't have a road like Old Georgetown jammed from YMCA to Rockville and vice versa every day. It's going to become unbearable and watch and see how many bikes are on it. It's bad, really bad. Keep voting for Elrich and Co. This is those voters fault.
