Every, single week now. Many of us started at Parkside while young, single and/or first married. It's a really nice complex but nice means nothing. This is happening all over the place. Remember this when you go out and vote next week. Red Wave coming across the country and it's possible even in MoCo in our local election if people use their brains when considering Marc Elrich. That's not a direction we can afford.

I, for one, have no problem with a little local crime in our suburban neighborhoods. Gen X and Baby Boomers are getting too soft these days and it shows as in JAC's comment- a little bit of crime here and there adds some much needed spice to life.

"This is happening all over the place." This is exactly right, spot on. The part you fail to realize is that we are not isolated, singled-out, picked on, or whatever you want to call it, crime is on the rise everywhere. Yet, you and many other commenters want to single out one politician, one party, as being at fault, or not having the ultimate solution to this nationwide problem. Thus I ask you, what is the solution that you, or the conservatives have? Please inform us all NOW!

Well 8:15 social norm. Empower and stand with the police. No defunding. No talk about defunding. Get rid of soft on crime DAs. Actions need to have significant consequences. Personally be aware and ready. Vote red. Get those imbeciles out! Enough solutions for you?

8:15: Nip crime in the bud. Releasing shoplifters teaches the perpetrators that crime pays.
People that burn down the city because of happening in another city need to be prosecuted.

Rather than jail sentences for nonviolent offenders, have restitution instead . Let those with debt to society pay it by picking up litter from stream beds and clean toilet at the homeless shelter.

SN should get their head out of the sand:

Damm DC republicans!

When liberals say things like "both sides" they want to share the blame they caused for releasing criminals/repeat offenders with little or no bail. Not surprised as taking responsibility for their own action has never been in their DNA.

Social Norm -

Your comment is perfect.

Thanks!

@8:15 AM: When JAC said: "This is happening all over the place", he/she was clearly referring to crime happening all over the place in MoCo. You're trying to use a well-known argument tactic of "broadening", where you attempt to remove the specific focus of a point by lumping it in with a larger pooled argument in order to move it to what you feel is more favorable terrain for you. That doesn't work with me. We're talking about MoCo.

MoCo's current crime problem is the fault of its All-Democrat One-Party Leadership because of their specific policy of having the MoCo Police Force be less than half the size of what it needs to be for a County of this size. Those are indisputable facts.

The Police regularly report to the County on crime trends and police staffing. This Report speaks for itself: https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/council/Resources/Files/agenda/cm/2022/20220131/20220131_PS2.pdf

"The Committee has received regular updates on Police staffing and is well aware that while the Department’s staff has historically been lower than the average for similarly-sized jurisdictions, Montgomery County continued to have relatively low crime rates. After taking significant budget cuts during the great recession, Police staffing increased slowly over the past 10 years, from 1,159 authorized sworn positions in FY12 to a high of 1,306 in FY21."

............

"For FY22, MCPD has an authorized sworn complement of 1,281 officers. This number reflects 1.2 officers per 1,000 residents. It is significantly lower than the average 2.8 officers per capita reported for counties, and the 2.5 officers per capita reported for suburban areas. While per capita staffing is just one measure of police department strength, it is important to note that MCPD’s per capita staffing has remained about 1.2 for almost 20 years."

It's a deliberate policy of the All-Democrat One-Party County Leadership not to sufficiently increase the size of the force to address the current crime level and the needs of the community. They could certainly do it if they wanted to. They control how money is spent here. Republicans have no say in it at all.

In fact, it was a deliberate decision by County Leadership to disband the MoCo Police Auto Theft Unit during a stolen car wave due to FY 2021 budget cuts: https://wtop.com/montgomery-county/2021/10/montgomery-co-man-recovers-his-own-stolen-car-from-dc/

"Montgomery County Police Department’s auto theft unit was disbanded earlier this year because of FY 2021 budget cuts."

The stats on stolen cars speak for themselves:

In 2019, there were 914 Motor Vehicle Thefts in MoCo.
In 2020, there were 1,178 Motor Vehicle Thefts in MoCo.
In 2021, there were 1,444 Motor Vehicle Thefts in MoCo.
For 2022: "As of June 6, there have been 511 auto thefts in the county this year, according to police spokesperson Carlos Cortes-Vazquez." (https://bethesdamagazine.com/2022/06/10/county-police-launch-program-to-help-decrease-auto-thefts/)

You may recall that Elrich defeated Blair, who ran on a strong public safety and equity platform, in the Primary by 32 votes.

So a lot of Elrich voters had their cars stolen in the past few years and they simply didn't care. It wasn't enough to make them vote for someone different in their own party's Primary and reject the failures of the incumbent. It probably won't be enough to make them vote for a Republican in the upcoming General either. Perhaps you can explain that.

So you're asking me: What's the solution?

Republicans have no elected positions in MoCo. Republicans have no say in County policies. Unless Reardon Sullivan wins, that will remain true.

That means the solution lies with you. Support candidates that believe in strong public safety platforms that incorporate equity. If you still plan to vote for Elrich after all this rampant crime (or if you voted for him in the Primary), you're the problem.

815 the reason it’s happening all over the place is because Maryland is a blue democratic state where violent criminals are let out of jail
Nyc
Chicago
Detroit
Philly
Bethesda
DC

La
Portland Oregon
Seattle

Blue states where crime is exploding

Coincident Parkside right behind grosvenor station metro

Get ona train in DC and pillage in Bethesda and hop right back on train
Worst thing to happen to Bethesda was the metro
Can’t believe how much worse crime will be when green line comes

8:15 AM: Here's a solution: How about you try voting for candidates that actually support public safety measures and policies which actually work? Elrich doesn't, and you probably voted for him instead of David Blair in the Primary. You'll probably vote for Elrich again over Reardon Sullivan as well. You're probably surprised to learn that you're both the problem and the solution.

I grew up in Bethesda when it was safe to live It all makes sense now DC has already becomeDetroit and now Bethesda is beginning to crumble. I was horrified by the photos of Union Station. Don’t the DC politician who are on the Amtrak NEcorridor see this every day?
Abandoned empty storefronts drug addicts chasing Antrak travelers? Wow soNYC:( “The Union Station Starbucks — long a staple for weary travelers — had to close earlier this month due to ‘concerning incidents’ (crime),” he wrote. “Encampments of tents litter the nearby blocks, and customers of the remaining stores find themselves chased and hounded by unwell people.”

The solution is obviously to anyone with common sense. Put criminals in jail and repeat offenders in jail for a long time so everyone can see that there are consequences to one's actions. See how easy that was?

Elected democrats unfortunately have no interest in crime prevention until it knocks on their doorstep.

Isn't social norm the one who rails against whataboutism yet points to other cities as having similar crime problems? The solution is open your eyes to what's actually happening instead of regurgitating MSM.

Not one person mentioned prevention. Everything now is political. Police, police, police. Go get the “bad guy!” It’s the Republicans! It’s the Democrats! Don’t be woke! Be woke! Geez! There will never ever be enough funding nor police to deal with the new batches of criminals that will continue to be manufactured by a society that thrives on hate, poverty, division, education disparities, inequality, inhumanity, drugs…criminals don’t just pop in the air suddenly, independent of any contributing factors. If we continue to ignore the root causes of anything in this country, we will forever argue about ridiculous things like what one political person is doing to solve all of our endless problems. We don’t need a politician! We need an entire mindshift! 🙄

"Not one person mentioned prevention"
I will - look up the 'broken window' theory on crime. 'In summary, the theory of broken windows says that the more a territory is subject to "deviant" behavior, the more likely it is that even more serious crimes will occur.' Giuliani in New York arrested people for jumping the turnstiles on the Subway. Inevitably these people had drugs or guns. That's how you nip crime in the bud. I hear our Metro is overrun with people jumping turnstiles - maybe not in Bethesda, but in New Carrolton, etc. And the Metro employees are powerless to stop it. Look it up.

7:35 "I, for one, have no problem with a little local crime in our suburban neighborhoods. Gen X and Baby Boomers are getting too soft these days and it shows as in JAC's comment- a little bit of crime here and there adds some much needed spice to life."
You sir, for one, are an idiot.

8:44 "Can’t believe how much worse crime will be when green line comes" I think you mean the Purple line (?)
And you got that right. As Bachman Turner Overdrive sang -"You Ain't seen nothing Yet".

11:55 will always be part of the problem as the real world doesn't exist in their mind. We would always like to think that people will do the right thing, hence bail-reform, but facts prove otherwise. Idealism, (regarding crime), is fine in the abstract but in practice has never worked yet democrats choose to inflict their ideology upon everyone they rule over and ignore the disastrous results.

In the real world, results matter.
