"The Green," the public square at the new Westbard Square development in Bethesda, is actually turning that color. Turf carpeting has been laid down over much of the space, which is across Zenith Overlook from the new Giant building at 5400 Westbard Avenue. Landscaping is being installed between the sidewalk and the green. Those are the little shrubs you see in the photo below.
A variety of seating is now in place, as well. Swinging benches are a distinctive addition I haven't seen at other town squares in Montgomery County, or that often in the wider region. Along with the quarry stone accents, they are providing some unique design elements to the development. The Green is scheduled for completion in "early 2025," according to property owner Regency Centers.

Will we see a bocce ball court, too? :-)
It looks like a glorified dog park.
That is really pathetic. 200 square feet of cheap-looking plastic grass is what the community gets for the “green space” amenity of this development?! Shameful bait and switch from the developers, Council-member Friedson, and the useless Planning Board. I want to move from MoCo as soon as I can.
That is what you get from our die hard environmentalists. Plastic Fraud.
The same Council-member who spoke at B-CC about unrealistic promises.
That entire project is kinda odd. And the new Giant is much worse than the original. The was a huge store with a really nice layout. The center needed updating no doubt. But this may end up a bit like Pike and Rose where they jam so many retailers and buildings on the site that's it's tough to sort of find your way.
Poo stain in less than a week. Get the POOF out quick.
By the time you get to the new Giant entrance you'll either have a nosebleed or need oxygen,.
Driving up/down the spiral ramp you are risking head-on collision.
It's a symbol of the entire 'green' movement - flat-out fraud.
Regency really had no business taking on a project like this, and unfortunately, our representatives at MoCo were singularly focused on affordable housing and the out of control parks department was busy trying to tear up needed roads just down the street at Little Falls Parkway.
