Sign installed at Paisano's Pizza in Bethesda (Photos)

The sign is up on the storefront of the future Paisano's Pizza in downtown Bethesda's Woodmont Triangle. You may recall I broke the story in May that Paisano's is taking over the former Naked Pizza space at 4914 Del Ray Avenue.

The front windows were still wrapped Thursday, as work continues inside. Paisano's already has two Montgomery County locations in Rockville and Gaithersburg.

Another crap chain. It'll fail firstly because it isn't any good (reviews are awful and no one's heard of it) and second, that street has been tough on restaurants. People don't know it's there. They think the shops, etc end right about Urban Heights and don't go any further. Sorry to be negative but if Bethesda is being thought of as the "New Aspen" then this strip mall pizza joint won't cut it. What does do you ask? Mia's pizza for one. Da Marco is also very good. Pete's New Haven is also good. I would rather have seen a place like that and had them offer counter service or to go only. That space is tiny. Lastly, waiting and hoping something good will take Hard Times once though I miss their chili and wings. A good spot will help bring alive that block of Del Rey.

Yeah, I've had their pizza, it's like overpriced Mama Celeste.

Vace is the truth. I need no other pizza in Bethesda.

They were "voted #1 Pizza in VA, MD & DC by WTOP Listeners"

Well I do like their chicken cheesesteaks!

JAC - Yes, with the exception of Hard Times, DelRay Avenue is where restaurants go to die.

Their pizza is OK, nothing exceptional. Decent prices though, unlike some nearby pizza places.

in my opinion Paisano's will do well on Del Ray Avenue and bring some attention to the block. Naked was doomed from the beginning due to the fact they never advertised and no one knew they were there. speaking with Paisano's staff manager assigned to this location he stats that they will blanket a 5 blk radius before opening with grand opening specials, especially all the the apt buildings in the area. Naked was too small and did not have the marketing budget to get the word out in the area. Bethesda needs some affordable and quick service food, especially in this area, hit mias or demarco your spend 25 for a pizza and wait about 25 min to get it. looking at the majority of tenants in the area they area younger crowd that cant spend $30-$45 for a dinner as they rents are so high in the area they cant justify the large cost, and they want the food quick. all these full service restaurants don't work with the people living in the area. the issue is rents are too high in the area for these types of restaurants in the area , subway tried to get into the old Leahy Plumbing & Heating Inc on cordell but heckmans used a no complete clause in the lease for another sandwich shop with Connelly & Company Management.

I don't want to scoop dyer but i can confirm the new tenant coming to the old hard times location , they already operate a food establishment in Bethesda ?

Cheap is fine food that isn't any good isn't. Is Jettie's ont cheaper, faster service side? Yes. But wait a second. Their sandwiches and salads are all delicious and made fresh on premises every day. If Paisano's can do that, they'll be fine. If not, they'll close. Young people may need cheaper options but they don't want crappy ones.

10:32: If you really know who is going into Hard Times, email me at robert1999 [at] hotmail [dot] com. I've heard who it is, but no confirmation yet. Smells like another Hamburger Hamlet situation, where somebody's planning a hand off to a competing website even as I've known who's moving in for a week now.

So if you can really *confirm*, let's hear it via email.

Anonymous said...

So what's wrong with that?

Anonymous said...

Dyer posts "exclusives" all the time. Someone else gets one and it "smells". Lol.

Anonymous said...

Dyer never gets scooped because he simply pretends it didn't happen if he didn't report it first

I just read it's Quincy's.

I've known it was Quincy's for over a week, but they wouldn't confirm. I've got the hard copy emails from my sources to prove I knew it. Same thing like the post-Hamburger Hamlet mystery. Never heard from the previous commenter who claimed he knew who it was, either. Interesting.

I didn't mean anything by it. Relax. Just saying I read it today. No need to get super defensive.

"No need to get super defensive."

You realize that comment will make him even more defensive, don't you?

What's the source that this was read in regarding Quincy's? Mr. Dyer said to me in an email he would be surprised if it was Quincy's given they have two other locations in the county within a 15 minute drive or so from downtown Bethesda.
Haven't tried it but it might work given their casual American menu. Lots of variety.

JAC, I think you may have misunderstood what I wrote. I said that I'd been told it was Quincy's, and that I had also been informed of two *other businesses* who were also interested in the Hard Times space.

What I had said was that I didn't see how those other two businesses would find Del Ray Avenue advantageous, as their existing downtown Bethesda establishments are on far busier streets.

Why are you responding to comments you deleted? If it's "false" then let the readers see the evidence and disprove the comment without just seeing a deleted comment and an author responding to something no one can see.

Perhaps I did misread your post. The fact remains that Quincy's has two other locations relatively close by. Bethesda doesn't need crappy chain concepts not the least of which a sports bar. We like sports around here but we aren't Cleveland. Bring an innovative menu with a decor fitting of the neighborhood and it will be a winner. Absent of that, and you'll see Greenhill lease posters again and again.

5:07 AM relax. any deleted comments on this thread were deleted by the author, not the publisher/editor (Dyer).

Dyer isn't the author? I didn't know this blog had more than one writer. Cool!

9:46AM When it says a comment was "removed by a blog administrator", I assume that is Dyer, the publisher/editor, removing something offensive.

When it says "removed by the author", I assume the person who wrote the comment removed it. The author, as in the author of the comment, not the article..lol.

Oh. Gotcha. You can delete your own comments on here?

I deleted a comment because it posted twice for some reason on my smartphone I think.

If you are logged in you can.

I wish he wouldn't get defensive. His blog is great. Interactions not so much. Detracts from the experience. :(
