Kapnos Kouzina applies for liquor license at Bethesda Row

Celebrity chef Mike Isabella's newest venture, Kapnos Kouzina at the corner of Woodmont Avenue and Hampden Lane, has applied for its liquor license.

Originally expected to open this fall, build-out was delayed and just recently began. Kapnos' hearing will be December 17.

A high-profile name like Isabella's is just what is necessary to draw diners around the corner to this out-of-the-way spot at Bethesda Row. It should also be popular with the elite residents of The Lauren, now under construction across from the restaurant.

Regarding the elite residents of the Lauren, people with a very high net worth usually have a home in each city and spread their time between them. I have a friend who lives in a high-end condo in Rosslyn (Waterview) and it was the same way -- most units were vacant the majority of the time. The owners were in other cities, the the condo was their DC alternative to staying in a hotel.

So we may not see too many of them crowding the lines at Kapnos, but who knows.

I heard Mike will punch you if you call him "Isabella".

Hopefully they will have a delightfully stinky ventilator, like the Smashburger used to have.

Can they please put an entrance mid block on woodmont instead of on the corner away from the action? They would get so much more action and liven up the block.
