Sweetgreen reopens early at Bethesda Row (Photos)

The interior overhaul at Sweetgreen is complete, and the salad shop was open yesterday - two days earlier than originally planned. They had previously said it would reopen tomorrow, December 1.

Two days ahead of schedule? The County should have hired whoever was in charge of this project to build the Silver Spring Transit Center.

I was walking on the other side of the street (Elm?) yesterday.. Looks like Bonobos, 100 Montaditos, and Bethesda BBQ are all vacant retail spaces. Any word on those? Soon that area will earn the Greenhill reputation if this keeps up!

Yeah I wonder what's going on with FRIT. High rent? Proximity to Friendship Heights and Rockville locations that keep chains from picking that spot also? Any thoughts?

I do like how they are trying to cull back from all restaurants and boutiques to incorporate national retailers that have a bigger draw. Shop and eat and play. Versus just eat. They need a better drawing and better theater though to really make it pop.

Why don't you walk inside and take some pictures there?

Always on the outside looking in.

I think FRIT is charging too much in rent, and meanwhile there has been more retail space added with the new developments across from Barnes & Noble.

Generally, landlords prefer national chains because they're more likely to pay the rent on time. Personally, I prefer a mix since I like unique local places too.

Heck, that Soup place might even survive there, if they converted to a fast casual format, lowered their prices, and offered better soups.

Yeah it's good that FRIT is getting some competition with JBG and Stonebridge Carras to put some competition and downward pressure on their rent monopoly in Bethesda Row.

It's too bad the Giant wall of nothing and size of Arlington really hurts flow towards that block of smaller property owners.

It's too bad Giant didn't have an entrance on that Arlington-Bethesda corner. It's a brick wall along there instead.

Bonobos is open. That said, the idea of a men's clothing store whose name suggests hot lesbian monkey sex is disturbing.

Haha... they do sound alike. :)

They gave away so much food in rewards and promos as they tried to survive. I've still got like &30 worth of credit but would have to be up north to use it now. :(
