More "For Lease" signs at homeless shelter-turned-restaurant in Bethesda

A new set of "Leasing Opportunity" signs have popped up in the windows of the former men's shelter recently converted into a restaurant space on Cordell Avenue. An interior restaurant buildout has not begun yet. An anonymous commenter had previously posted that the New York/Las Vegas-themed mural along the side wall of the building was tied to a specific tenant, but would not identify the prospective tenant.

Does that previous commentator have any updates? They were pretty insistent about their inside info. New lease signs don't bode well though.

Odd how Dyer doesn't mention the landlord by name, as he does in all his other articles.

@ 8:50 AM - that was probably Lenny himself.

What happened with the idea that at the mural was related to the tenant?
A Vegas/NYC connection somehow.

So the homeless shelter gets kicked out and is replaced by... a vacant building?

When is Dyer going to do some of that "investigative reporting" that he brags about so much, and expose the scandal of Greenhill's moribund properties?

County should sell that parking lot to a real developer who can put up a real restaurant space there and cover up that hideous mural.

Agreed.

Yes please! This would be a great story into the moribund montgomery county. Dead properties killing bethesda.

According to the State University of New York, many of the individuals who troll the Internet have less-developed egos. Cyber bullies prefer the Internet format because they can make new accounts to hide who they are. They often feel more comfortable saying things they wouldn’t normally say because no one knows who they are. They may have emotional or mental issues and use the Internet to express their aggression and dissatisfaction with their lives. Attacking others makes them feel better about themselves.

According to the University of Harvard, many of the individuals who are incapable of accepting new evidence and formulating adjusted opinions have less-developed brains. These "blind followers" tend to fall for logical fallacies and tend to join cults or follow popular myths and extremist politicians because they can hide their lack of critical and independent thinking behind someone else's perspective. They may have intellectual or logical issues and use blind arguments to express their lack of understanding and dissatisfaction with their inability to comprehend. Blindly supporting others makes them feel smarter and better about themselves.

Yes it's moribund indeed. Bethesda can't grow with empty buildings everywhere.

Someone please save us from Greenhill. I really really hope he has a bigger plan of assemblage and is just waiting for the master plan revision. Please share with us this plan so we aren't all in the dark and hating Lenny Greenberg.

Greenhill needs to leave Bethesda, they put up overwhelmingly generic buildings, attempt to charge excessive rents and then when their buildings break charge the tenants for the base building repairs forcing their tenants to lose their businesses. Greenhill is a cancer to Bethesda's growth and development. Nothing looks worse than blocks full of empty buildings

Agreed! It's not like developers don't want to build in these spaces. Greenhill just holds 'em and won't do anything good.

Douglas has to empty spots in the Woodmont Triangle...the old Relic space has been empty for years.

Federal Realty has empty spaces at Bethesda Row. The Bainbridge has had empty retail for years.

Why just focus on Greenhill?

I believe the focus is on Greenhill because the majority of the empty spaces are theirs. Plus they continue to tear down and re-build yet no new tenants move in, or those that do are short lived. The also put those obnoxious plaques on their buildings. The mural on their building on Cordell is also moronic, who wants to see the NYC skyline in DC!

How about the mural on Fairmont that touts like Greenberg lane or something and is in the middle of the freaking sidewalk. Someone mentioned it was out of spite for Bainbridge?

The rebuilds into mediocre one story buildings also adds to the future price tag of a bigger redevelopment.

And sitting on so many properties without developing when plenty would be happy to come in and build. His lots sit empty and drives up the price of the few available properties.

When you pay $10 for a mural that's what you get, here's hoping all these vacant buildings finally catch umwith Greenhill and out them out of business!
