BCBG closes at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda (Photos)

Bon Chic. Bon Genre.

Bon Voyage.

BCBGMaxAzria has closed at Westfield Montgomery Mall. The financially-struggling fashion retailer received a $135 million injection of cash just over a year ago, and things were supposedly turning around.

Their Beverly Grove store on Melrose Avenue in L.A. has closed, as well.

BCBG has a really odd business model. They pride themselves on their 'gowns' but place them in the $350-$600 price range. There aren't many galas in the DC area where you can show up in a $600 'gown' and be taken seriously. Maybe public school girls buy these gowns for their proms, but I don't think many socially active adults in Bethesda/CC ever would.

In the interest of fairness, I do own several of their more casual dresses, but I use them appropriately for casual days. They are very comfortable for an easy day of running errands or something to change into after tennis. They are appropriately situated in the more everyday $300 dress range.

My daughter has a couple of their cocktail dresses, but nothing in that line has really ever moved me.

@7:16 - Interesting, I didn't know that. It does seem in a weird valley of "too expensive to buy often, yet too cheap to wear to a true formal event". Huh, TIL!

Thank you. Not sure what you mean by 'too expensive to buy often' though. Their casual dresses are rarely more than $300.

Odd how you never get this kind of context in Dyer's reporting on bar and restaurant closures in downtown Bethesda.

Haha. I specifically clicked on this post to read the inevitable hilarious comment by the "progressive" and "socially active" Bethesdan (7:16/7:49) and wasn't disappointed.

It's hard to tell if they're serious, but the sad thing is that some people out there are REALLY this out-of-touch with reality.

Meh. What some find hilarious others find trite.
