Chloe's NY Style Deli closes at Westfield Montgomery Mall (Photo)

It almost seems like if you're waiting in line at one of the recent dining additions to Westfield Montgomery Mall, it might close before you reach the cash register. Chloe's NY Style Deli is the latest to shut down in the Dining Terrace. Virtually all of the departing restaurants have been ones added since the major renovation and expansion of the mall, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Blaze Pizza, Lobster ME and Jamaican Mi Crazy (although the latter has claimed its closure is temporary) have all gone dark in the last two weeks. At the same time, the mall reported its biggest sales year in history in 2015.

Not the least bit surprised. Despite the name, Chloe's did not transport us to a bustling 44th street in the springtime. Would like to see a Pret replace it.

Nothing compelling there. Food court is really improved over the last few years but there are some dogs.

Slowly the reality is dawning on Dyer.

Is this a fatality of the Purple Line as well?

We are staying away from MM for some time. The crime at and around the mall has increased to the point that we dont feel safe.

Not the best photograph. You can't tell where the counter ends and the floor begins.

@ 5:29 AM - Overexposure. The whiteness is overwhelming (like Westbard, LOL) and results in loss of detail.

Which in turn results in loss of perspective, causing the floor to merge with the counter, and the large glass enclosure to look like a toaster oven.

Is Benny Greenberg running that food court?

Fanboys. Loving the Dyer. #deadmall guy has been posting for an hour.

This is simply false.

This place made me poop 4 times in 1 day, I'm not surprised it's closing

Laughing at 6:50 AM's obsessive stalking.

@6:07 - Nice Iceburn

7:28 thinks that obsessive stalking is reading a blog each morning? OMG, then what is it you do? Psychotic stalking? If you're going to act like fanboy(s), get used to hearing it. Nine BS posts + 5:09's real one + Dyer's response to his SuperTroll.
Sad.

@ Dyer's 6:07- you have the emotional maturity of a 2 year old.

8:11: Uh, I reviewed Pi Pizzeria about a month ago. But by posting yet another spam link to a competing website, you remind us all again of how badly that site is failing. So badly, that it has to rely on spam URLs posted here on the leading Bethesda news outlet, and on government handouts, to get readers. Sad! The plug would have been pulled by now like Bethesda Now if it weren't for the mysterious angel investors.

Leading Bethesda news outlet?! Hahahahahahahahaha! You're more delusional than your posts led me to believe.

Dyer is established as the most trusted news source in Bethesda by far.

9:49, 9:59 So envious. Day after day. You have to comment on him. Poor things, if you put your mind to it and worked hard, you too might have success in your life. Once you start concentrating on your own "game", you'll be less consumed by and jealous of others' successes.

10:35: Boy, with the furious spamming of URLs to that other site, the latest analytics must really be bad. Clearly a failing venture, the second such competitor to be crushed by my site in the last few years. No winning site would have to stoop to spamming their articles in my comments section, in hopes of peeling off even a few readers from Bethesda's leading website. Sad.

Oh, by the way, I'm the guy who broke the Modern Market story in the beginning.

Maybe you can get another taxpayer -funded subsidy for your cratering site before the afternoon is over. You're just too low energy. Super low-energy, like Hans.

What's been the bigger business failure, Bethesda Beat or Bethesda jazz club?
Guess who owns both disasters?

5:29: Montgomery mall is not an unsafe place generally. Try Wheaton or lake forest if you want to talk about crime...

Anonymous said...

Oh my gosh. Lakeforest. It's been 5 years since I've been there, and it wasn't great then. Only place that had something I needed in stock.
Guess it hasn't gotten better?

I think I know what happened here. Montgomery Mall did their food court renovation which expanded it greatly, and they were desperate to fill up those new spaces before it opened. They offered sweet lease deals that all expired around now. That's why we see all these places abruptly moving out -- they couldn't make it at market-rate rents.

I think next to go will be "Burger Venue" (formerly Kraze Burger) and that huge Naples pizza restaurant. I go to the food court on a regular basis during lunchtime, and you can pretty much predict who is going to go under soon -- if they don't have a line at the peak of lunchtime, they're on their way out. Compare that to Sarku Japan, Panda Express, Cava, or McD's, all which have a line of at least 10 people at all times during lunch.

@11:19am Lakeforest is the next mall to go. I went there as a kid 20 years ago and it was great. Now many stores have left, and there's not much remaining. It'll be torn down or fully redeveloped in the next few years, I'm sure of it.

Yep, sounds like Benny G is running the place.

2:41: A struggling digital venture, and now a scandal! Sounds like they'd better start spending the time they use posting URLs in my comments section on addressing those issues.

Bethesda's Gays don't want Dyer, either.

3:59PM Why do you say that?
Have you been knocking on doors again? What do you say is the subject of your poll?
Which question do you ask first- "Are you gay?" or "Do you support Dyer?"
