World of Beer Bethesda applies for liquor license (Photos)

World of Beer has applied to Montgomery County for its all-important liquor license, for its future Bethesda location along Bethesda Avenue. It will be inside the JBG-owned Artery Plaza building. A Rockville location opened recently. Here is a construction update from the site in these photos.

Think they will have lime-a-rita bud on tap for you Robert?

Robert Dyer said...

I'm actually hoping they'll have the new Water-Melon-Rita version for me. Lime-a-Rita is so 2012.

Isn't linking to an external site a security risk?

6:56AM: Robert Dyer reported on the Nike Store March 2. So, Bethesda Magazine is just reporting on it now, 3 months later? Sad!
They need better sources! Put those millions in revenue to work.

Robert all your posts similar to this are giving reason to worry about your alcoholic tendencies. Do you need help?

6:56: Hysterical - reporting Nike Store months after I did. I guess they're trying to "look busy" while actually being a struggling, money-losing website. Thank Hans for those angel investors. How much they spend?

Robert Dyer said...

7:22: Ironically, they posted spam to a story I reported first on a post about another opening I reported first.

One of their problems is that they don't have millions in revenue, just a lot of mysterious angel capital like the other site that went out of business. Do these guys have deeper pockets? How much are they willing to spend?

Does this blog have angel investors? I see no add revenue options etc...or does mommy's trust fund keep it afloat?

Robert, have you approached Budweiser about a collaboration flavor named 'Dyer-Ita' but been turned down because it sounds a little like diarreah?

@9:05 I am not surprised. All of my friends in Chevy Chase do the same as we do. We have our spirit needs met by deliveries from catering firms.

Why does the same guy want every conversation on here to be about the articles he writes on another site? No one cares. If they did, they'd be reading your stuff.

9:19 is Elm, and is still a Unic

Robert Dyer said...

9:05: You're right, the website that needs to post spam URLs to its articles in my comments section just to get readers, is indeed moribund. The actions speak for themselves.

Robert Dyer said...

8:32: I have no costs, reporter salaries, or office space. What is there to keep afloat? There really is no such thing as a profitable news website. All these things like Buzzfeed and even the glossy rely on investment capital with which they can buy clicks and search engine position. The depth of the investors' pockets determines the lifespan of such sites. How deep are they, punk?

"What is there to keep afloat?"

Are you a robot?

"I make more money than Robert Dyer" isn't a convincing argument that your journalism is better than Dyer's

That's like saying Starbucks is better than every other coffee chain because they make the most money. Makes no sense logically.

No one cares how much money Dyer makes. What people wonder if how the hell he survives. Either:
1. he lives in his mom's basement
2. he has a real job outside of typing "moribund" 20x a day
3. he doesn't disclose when he's writing a sponsored post, which might explain why some of his stances make zero sense, e.g. why he has a personal vendetta against certain developers while lauding others for no apparent reason.

#3 would be important to know.

12:02pm You're creepy as fuck.
I don't know where any local journalist lives or how much they make. What's your obsession with Robert Dyer? No one cares about this other than you.

Where's your scrutiny of other local journalists? Is it ok with you that many of them are freelancers and interns?
Is it ok if they don't disclose investments in businesses that they cover?

Anonymous said...

12:02, Must you make something big out of every little thing?
Why does it matter exactly where he lives? Or if he does this full-time or not?
Are you saying you have to know these things before you will believe anything he writes? Do you ask/demand this of writers at any other sites, like the Post or the WSJ or even the NY Post? Of course not. You aren't besieging them because you're not obsessed with them?

He says he has no sponsored content. What makes you doubt that? Because he sometimes writes fluff from press releases? Um, that's why they're called press releases - info sent to the press to release to the public. Duh.

Or is it you who has a vendetta against Dyer?

Disclaimer: I'm not Dyer nor am I related to him. Never met the man. Never spoken to him. I have seen him once at a county meeting. (Just like me to put up a disclaimer.)

Hey 12:41PM GMTA!

Anonymous said...

The irony is, readers know more about Dyer than any other local journalist. He's been profiled in the Gazette, has an "about us", is active in person at local meetings, is active on multiple social platforms...

I'm sorry to say I haven't seen anything about other local journalists. Most don't have a photo, let alone anything else.

Guess what: many local bylines are freelancers and interns. Paid very little and don't have any depth in local knowledge.

If Dyer doesn't get income from his blog, where does he get his money???

Anonymous said...

1:15pm Where do you get your money, if not paid to comment here?

I get it from 1:17's wife, she's lonely

It's a David vs Goliath, and David (Dyer) is winning. The other website is well-funded, yet Dyer beats them to the story more than half the time.

Then there's their print magazine.. or shall we say doorstop. It's 70% ads, and 30% "feature" stories written by bored Bethesda housewives eager to put "freelance writer" on their LinkedIn profile. Great, another article on which yoga pants to buy.

In particular I like how they write reviews of restaurants or businesses that happen to be advertisers and pay for sponsored content on their site (Pi pizzeria comes to mind). Journalism at its finest folks!

What is anonymous 6:41pm's obsession with the male anatomy?

What is Elm's obsession with repeating comments about male anatomy?

Robert said...

Dyer has the fortunate position of being financially independent. He doesn't need to worry about things like a job or income, nor does his product need revenue. It's quite a nice position to be in!

Elm said...

I guarantee you there's no problem. I guarantee.

You act like Robert Dyer is David when he's independently wealthy and self funded.

Reading these comments I actually just realized that Mr. Dyer criticizes the lack of transparency at the county council, washington post, bethesda magazine, etc. but what is his story???

We don't know anything about his credentials/background (although it clearly isn't economic or master planning) besides I believe someone said that he is/was a musician.

Does he actually live in Bethesda? And if so what neighborhood?

What is his day job?

Anonymous said...

9:59AM . Liar. Oh, you're real believable. Sure. You're just obsessed. It's sickening. Stop following him around. Get on with your own life. Go one day without begging/pleading for Dyer's attention.

What about you? Where do you live? What's your job? How much do you make? How's your mom? Are you allowed around schools? How's that niece of yours who lives in the woods of 5700 Grosvenor Lane?? Why do you need so much information from someone writing an article? What did the county council members say when you asked all of them where their money comes from?

Some days on here you just feel like smackin MFs.... SMH

The Post is coming around actually. They are aligned with Dyer on the issues with the moribund MoCo economy.

Dyer has a wonderful "about us" page and a profile in the Gazette.

Now, tell Dyer's readers about yourself.
