Zipcar is winning the car-sharing war in downtown Bethesda. The company is essentially the only game in town at this point. Hertz On Demand once had a presence downtown but has vanished. Zipcar now holds 4 spaces here in the Cordell-St. Elmo garage alone, where Hertz once operated, and many others around town.
Other players seeking to expand in the area include Enterprise and the promising new Maven service from General Motors. The latter offers A-list vehicles like the Cadillac Escalade and Chevrolet Volt.
Zipcar is the one with the physical presence at this moment, however. Right now, for example, Maven's cars are parked only within the District. None are close to the D.C. line in Palisades, Spring Valley or Tenleytown, either.

::laughing:: Thanks for the chuckle, 8:33.
5 photos of the same car?
9:44am Agreed. Too many photos. Back in my day, the legacy media style guide dictated that just one, strong black & white photo is sufficient. I miss the Gazette! I loved their one black & white photo per article. My eyes can't handle more.
Are any of these burgularies in Bethesda being investigated?
Has anyone seen month cry police cruising thru neighborhoods ?
Why are there so many burgularies and crime in Bethesda?
Is anybody doing anything?
12:42: It was an inside job.
10:51: I guess that's why my site outlasted the Gazette? "Remember when we had to get all our news from the opinions, er, reporting of Walter Cronkite?"
@3:01, are you implying you're a fair and un-biased reporter? Fly off on Riemer lately?
Cronkite never yelled at his audience.
And he never ran for office during the time that he was reporting the news.
Also, I'm sure that his sources of income were carefully documented.
5:08: What are the sources of income for the other local reporters and news outlets? It's well known there are angel investors - who are they, and what conflicts of interest do they represent? Do tell!
Cronkite lectured his audience regularly. I've never yelled at my audience, but George Leventhal sure did yell at a female County employee on live television.
4:02: I don't know of a single media outlet in this market that is unbiased and without an agenda. Here's the difference - I'm supporting my readers, the residents against the Montgomery County political cartel. Other local media are fighting their own readers to assist the political cartel in their agenda to bring radical change to an already-established community. Makes your comment sound pretty moronic, when you employ the measuring stick of reality.
Dyer regularly complains about the County using Windows 2000, but when Leventhal tried to do something about it, Dyer turns around and accuses Leventhal of "yelling at a female county employee". Dyer is such a hypocrite. And how is the employee's gender relevant to anything?
"It's well known that there are angel investors - who are they?"
More bullshit from Dyer.
7:37: Leventhal didn't do anything about the Windows 2000 issue other than pass the buck for his own incompetence by passive-agressively berating a female County employee on live television.
8:36: Both Bethesda competitors - the one that failed, and the one still operating - have wealthy angel investors whose identities are masked. Who are they, and what special interests and conflicts of interest do they represent? Legitimate questions, so pretty stupid of you to bring up that topic.
Dyer @ 8:40 pm - What is your basis for believing this?
Unbiased? Without agenda?
I like your blog. But you are kidding, right?

@ 8:47 AM - It's just desperate wishful thinking on Dyer's part - no basis in reality.
7:08 AM I love reading old crime news on other sites, days after Dyer reports it..lol.
Of all topics, crime news needs to be timely...exactly what Dyer delivers here. Breaking news and then following up on the story.
@8:36
Why do you keep stating "female" county employee? Sexist much?
@7:23
Can you please stop kissing Dyer's rear-end?
7:45am Can you please stop seeking validation and approval from Robert Dyer?
7:08: The crime "report" you linked to was not only less timely than mine, but omitted 90% of the crimes that took place during the period in question - not a trusted source in any respect. That's why readers turn to me for the full coverage of crime in Bethesda.
8:47: The Washington Post reported Bethesda Magazine has unidentified angel investors. Maybe 7:13 doesn't trust the Post?
Really funny and ironic how Dyer bashes Bethesda Magazine's supposed lack of transparency. At least we know BM is funded by ad revenue from area small businesses.
Who are Dyer's financial supporters? Where does Dyer get the money to run this site? What's Dyer's day job? Who pays his check?
BM has known transparency issues. For example, no disclosure when reporting on the Jazz Club bankruptcy. Standard practice to disclose if you're reporting on a business that you have ownership stake in, right?
That seems more serious than wondering how much Dyer makes in a year. Why so you hate small businesses like Dyer's? Get behind him. We'd be in a news desert without Robert Dyer.
Dyer claims to receive no income from his blog. How can a venture that generates no income be called a "small business"?
Why so hard on a small business guy like Dyer?
Also, Dyer's restaurant "reviews" magically award "5 stars" to every item he samples.
1:44 What is your obsession with that company? Not allowing comments is no way the same as omitting disclosure about ownership from the bankruptcy story.
10:00: You just lied - Bethesda Magazine is funded by angel investors, as reported by the Washington Post. They have salaries and substantial overhead costs. I have no costs publishing my blog. You sound like a complete moron.
2:02: Total BS coming from somebody extremely frustrated that I'm the most-established food critic in Montgomery County.
"I have no costs publishing my blog."
So it doesn't cost you anything to drive around the county taking pictures and eating at restaurants?
And you're accusing others of lying???
"I'm the most-established food critic in Montgomery County"
Wow...absolutely delusional.
8:27pm is there a MoCo based food critic with a larger audience than Dyer??? I'd love to know who.
8:27: I have 10,000 subscribers on YouTube for food reviews. Facts.
No disagreement there. It's impressive for sure.
But how do you qualify "I'm the most-established food critic in Montgomery County"?
I think the person making the claim is the one that needs to provide validation or reference.
5:32: Everybody else retired, and I have 10,000+ subscribers to my dining reviews on YouTube. Pretty clear-cut, I would say.
Why is someone even arguing this point? There is no other established MoCo based food critic other than Robert Dyer.
9:41, why do you think everything is an argument?
9:18 Thanks for the somewhat clarification. I guess no one else is touting statistics and only doing Montgomery County reviews.
