Hyatt Regency Bethesda to add Starbucks

The Hyatt Regency Bethesda hotel has created two new restaurant spaces on the Wisconsin Avenue/plaza side of the building during its massive renovation project. You may recall I recently reported an insider tip that one of those spaces would be a coffee shop. Now I have confirmed it will not only be a coffee shop, but the biggest name in coffee: Starbucks.
An in-house Starbucks will not only be a perk for hotel guests, but also another place to grab a coffee on the way to Metro in the morning (assuming it's running that day). Starbucks at the Hyatt will compete with another strong coffee contender at the Metro Center, Dunkin' Donuts. Starbucks will be at the front, right corner of the hotel facing Wisconsin Avenue. A second, prime 1700 SF space facing the Bethesda Metro Center plaza is still available for lease at the Hyatt.

Ooh a metro burn!

A real Starbucks or a hotel coffee bar that serves Starbucks?

Wonder if the Hyatt in Fredericksburg has a Starbucks?

Great addition to the hotel. I like what they're doing there.

I like it a lot. Opening up the exterior to more retail frontage, newer modern design, etc. the neon lights though are really tacky.

What Bethesda really needs is more restaurants selling coffee-flavored candy in paper cups.

I agree with the nice renovation except the terribly ugly neon lights. It’s like anyone who likes that is stuck in the 80s.

"on the way to Metro in the morning (assuming it's running that day)"

How many days in its 40 year history has Metro not been running?

Not neon, they're LED I'm sure.

Like the "neon" blue LEDs at Bethesda Row?

Here is what Robert Dyer is not telling you about the reason why the Westbard "cemetery" mediation session was cancelled:

"The commission’s executive director, Stacy Spann, declined to participate in a third mediation, concerned that issues raised in the first two sessions were not kept confidential and sensitive information ended up in the lawsuit pending in circuit court, according to county officials.

Issues 'alleged in the complaint were very close to what we had discussed in the mediation,' said Ramona Bell-Pearson, assistant chief administrative officer in the County Executive’s Office. 'The HOC director became very concerned.'”

9:38: Not only are you just plagiarizing that from the Washington Post article, but that article was very biased in favor of the HOC. I've read the legal filings; there is no such "leaked" information in them. Total malarkey. Did the reporter fact check HOC's claims?

Bethesda ranks high in coffee shops per capita. Here's my count:

-Six starbucks (which includes Target, Safeway, and Harris Teeter))
-Quartermain
-Pain quotidien
-Panera
-Paul
-Two Dunkin Donuts
-Petes
-La Medeleine

Are you a journalist or an advocate for the "cemetery" folks?

10:14 AM speaking truth to power and holding government accountable is journalism 101.

@ 10:22 commented just one minute after "Elm" commented on the Taste of Bethesda article. LOL

10:14

Plus the new Joe and the Juice, plus the Starbucks in Barnes and Noble (for now).

I think there's space for a local/independent coffee shop in Bethesda.

Doesn’t that gelato place on Bethesda Row serve coffee too?

I know! Isn’t it crazy when people have these crazy conspiracy theories!?

Can someone explain the Adebayos' standing regarding the alleged cemetery, given that she is from Detroit and he is from Nigeria? Why doesn't Robert call them "Carpetbaggers"?

7:00pm Can someone explain what this has to do with Starbucks coming to the Metro Center Hyatt?

7:00: You just outed yourself as the developer. You acknowledge you are running background checks on the pastor and his wife looking for dirt, just as the MoCo cartel has tried (and failed) to do in the past with me.

Anonymous said...

Casual reader here. What or who is the MoCo cartel?

Anonymous said...

"Background checks"? Coleman-Adebayo has her own article on Wikipedia, you Birdbrain.

5:12: A corrupt alliance that includes a small faction within the County Democratic Party, certain developers that engage in pay-to-play, and so-called "non-profits" whose staff get kickbacks at taxpayer expense, which they funnel back to the campaign accounts of the County Council members who approve the expenditures. Most of these activities, obviously, are illegal. The cartel, along with the local media outlets they control, get the candidates they want into office. That's the short summary, but I'm looking forward to reading Burt Macklin's more-detailed report, once the FBI finally starts investigating the cartel.

Robert Dyer said...

5:29: That was part of your background check.

Burt Macklin is a fictional character. You, on the other hand, have had several years to report your suspicions to the FBI. Why have you not done so? You don't have to be an elected official to do that.

Which non-profits are you accusing of getting "kickbacks at taxpayer expense" from the "MoCo Cartel"?

5:48: Too many to name. And we haven't even been able to see the budget details to know just how many times this happens. The surveillance camera scandal I reported on this year, which cost taxpayers $21000, was NOT EVEN ITEMIZED IN THE STAFF REPORT the day the Council approved it!

But here's a specific example - an immigration charity was given a huge budget increase voted for by George Leventhal. The director of that organization, presumably receiving a salary derived in part from that taxpayer-funded bonus, then made the maximum-allowed contribution to Leventhal's campaign. He's putting your money into his campaign account - and this was before he even passed the diabolical public financing bill to make us pay for campaigns.

"Too many to name"

Name ONE. Starting with the "immigration charity".

#DodgingDyer

Also, I don't think you understand how public financing of campaigns actually works.

Anonymous said...

Also, you don't understand how bills are passed. Leventhal is one councilman out of nine. He cannot "pass" any bill all by himself.

Anonymous said...

"The surveillance camera scandal"

1) Only a scandal in your mind.

2) Fact: $21k is a reasonable price for an enterprise-class surveillance system.

Anonymous said...

Robert Dyer wanted a similar surveillance camera on the signboard at Woodacres ES because someone, one time, rearranged the letters to insult his brother-by-another-mother Donald Trump.

Robert Dyer said...

6:01: He doesn't have to "pass" it; he voted for it, which is the conflict of interest.

11:56: Not when you can buy and install the same system for less than $1000, old sport.

3:02: False statement. The point in that article was that MCPS has been caught without surveillance cameras of common areas in their schools 16 years after 9/11, and almost 20 after Columbine. Scary.

This is what you wrote: "George Leventhal...passed the diabolical public financing bill to make us pay for campaigns."

Again, he cannot "pass" a bill all by himself. And what is the "conflict of interest" here?
