Public meeting scheduled for Brightview Bethesda project

A second public meeting has been scheduled for the Brightview Bethesda project, an assisted-living residential building planned for 4907 Rugby Avenue. The meeting will be on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at 7:00 PM, at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center at 4805 Edgemoor Lane. Parking is available in the public garage below the building.

While there have been a few comments posted here on the blog, the only formal complaint filed so far has been from an adjacent apartment complex. The ownership of that property fears that shadows cast by the Brightview building will block sunlight from many of their units.

The proposed 7-story building would house 98 assisted-living residential units, and about 2,957 SF of retail space. 22 of the units would be designed for specialized memory care patients. The facility is touted as the first of its kind in downtown Bethesda. Shelter Group is the developer.

Was it discussed that the adjacent property's complaint has no legal basis as there are no laws requiring sunlight?

Nice to see some alternatives to luxury apartments in downtown Bethesda to bring some diversity.

Sounds like a good idea for the area since Manor Care et al have closed facilities recently.

Yeah this is a really positive development to see for many reasons. Go Brightview! Hopefully their rates are reasonable and service is good.
