Smoke BBQ burglarized in Bethesda (Photos)

Montgomery County police responded to a report of a burglary at Smoke BBQ at 4858 Cordell Avenue in Bethesda on Saturday morning, July 23, 2022. Officers found evidence of forced entry at the restaurant. Police responded to the call at 6:08 AM Saturday. A reader reports that officers were still on the scene investigating at 7:30 AM, wearing gloves and taking notes. It appears the front glass entrance was smashed to gain access, as in other recent commercial burglaries.

@10:12 don't forget: it's also Ike Leggett's, Duncan's, Potter's, Sid Kramer's, Charlie Gilchrist's.

There have always been "smash-&-grab" commercial burglaries in Bethesda, you just never read about them when they happened in the 1980s, '90s, early 2000s. That fact doesn't make the event suck any less, but this isn't a revolution in crime. The only thing new is your being aware of it.

Keep telling yourself that crime isn't up in this area and you eventually believe it. Just don't expect the rest of us to live in the same fantasy.

@5:18, I had so ardently hoped that this time around you might better understand what's actually written on the page. Clearly, such wishes are futile.

@2:19 -- "What time is it?"
@5:18 -- "Peanut butter!"

Ignorance and apathy aren't virtues but then 8:41 steps in to prove otherwise.

@3:25 Again, for benefit of your limbic system attention span, I never said crime wasn't rising. Sorry to rain on your parade, but you're arguing a point I never contested. Bravo, you've slain a dragon that never existed. Reward your achievement with a victory run around your yard, your best Captain America bedsheets fashioned as a cape 'round your neck, your arms extended so you can "fly."

MCP Annual Crime Report for 2020 (latest pub.);
BURGLARY
The number of burglaries has steadily declined 57% over the last 10 years, and in 2020, there were just over 1300 burglaries reported in Montgomery County. This is positive news, which may be attributed to the sophistication and convenience of do-it-yourself alarm and security monitoring systems. Unfortunately, there was an increase in commercial burglaries (22%), which may be attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. With commercial establishments closed for extended periods of time, there was opportunity for these establishments to be targeted for burglaries and less opportunities for the burglaries to be viewed and/or interdicted by witnesses. Conversely, shoplifting incidents have decreased since there were significantly fewer opportunities for this type of crime to occur.

Maybe 2:19/8:41 can assist speech writing for Brandon or Kamala when they try to redefine what a recession is something to the effect of "the passage of time"...

@2:19 PM The internet has been around for a couple of decades by now, and I've never heard of this much crime in Bethesda until the last two years.

So 6:18 says that they never said that crime isn't rising and then comes back when the other side of the brain wakes up at 7:45 to rationalize the statistical decline in crime. No doubt that the later needs to defend pathetic liberal policies and DA's that have resulted in crime spikes across the nation. Just wow.

@11:38 A compelling argument!

Re-phrased: "This must be new because I have only learned of it now." Arrogant much?

At least one sitting council member recently revealed he didn't feel safe in a well lit, populated area of his home district.

I appreciate his candor but it's a sign of our times. If the privileged and powerful don't feel safe, what of the rest of us?
