Mother's Day this Saturday, May 9 at Westwood Shopping Center in Bethesda

I now have the details on the first Westwood Shopping Center event of 2015, a Mother's Day celebration this Saturday, May 9, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

There will be a photo booth, an opportunity to make your own Mother's Day cards, and prizes and giveaways throughout the event.

For a full list of events at the shopping center this year, see my report from over the weekend.

It'd be nice if they had some restaurants

I am sure my mother would be very gracious if I took her to an old shopping strip for mother's day. I am not sure what we'd do... maybe pick up something from the Giant deli and a Starbucks coffee? She might die a little inside, but she'd be gracious.

5:36AM: Yirasai Sushi & Cafe, Hunan Kitchen, Ledo Pizza, etc. are all right there or steps away.

That view of the ATM and gas machine totally says, "I love you Mom. Thanks for bringing me into this world."

5:57 AM Yeah, if you and your mom like sushi, Yirasai is among the best in the area.

If you take her to the Giant deli, well, that's on you...lol.

"Send it back, Sonny. It's undercooked. Two dollars for each tiny chunk and you'd think they'd figure out how to cook it properly. No wonder we beat them in the war so easily."

6:28 AM If you want a chain, Ledos is right there for you too.

Again, if you want the Giant deli, go ahead.

We are certainly expanding what constitutes the Westwood Shopping Center. Even crossing the street to Kenwood Station. I will give you Yirasai at Westwood II.

6:48 AM Kenwood Station is steps away really.

A quarter of a mile on foot? Most of these people would drive.

Better options in Friendship Heights or Bethesda as long as we are traveling.

7:13 AM Kenwood Station is a 5 minute walk from Westbard Avenue.

Friendship Heights would be a 45+ minute walk.

Yeah, more options in Friendship Heights, but there are walkable options on River/Westbard (Yirasai, Hunan, etc.)

Again Westbard folks don't walk or want to walk. The traveling would be done by car. 5 minute drive to Friendship Heights.

You should visit the neighborhood more. There are many folks walking around on a nice weekend. Wonderful sidewalks.

Now, no one is walking to Friendship Heights Metro to go to work. They use the Ride On bus to connect to Metro. Better option than a 45 minute walk to the Metro every morning.

Where will the event actually be located? There's no central square to the place, and the sidewalk in front of the stores isn't that wide. Will they set up some kind of stage, or will it just be a few banquet tables in the parking lot?

45 minutes to go a mile and a half? Y'all are some slow walkers.

@ 8:39 AM - it's all a scam to ditch poor old Grandma.

wut? 45 minutes?

No one has ever advertised Kenwood Place or Park Bethesda as walking distance to Metro.

That's one of the reasons those units are less pricey than the same thing in downtown Bethesda or Friendship Heights.

Let's be realistic guys.

Take Mom to Farrell's for ice cream and then go bowling. Oh, wait...

Westbard's sidewalks are now teeming with walkers? I have yet to see it. Let alone any sizable amount of people taking a stroll from one shopping strip to another. Maybe some of the service workers who are always forgotten in the talk about transportation in this area.

1:36 PM I agree on the current transportation needs of service workers. The county could increase Ride On service in that area right now. Why wait?

Ride-On buses are rare in the evenings and weekends.
