At the very least, always carry pepper spray and a bright compact flashlight that you can repel and disorient an attacker with. If you want to carry a firearm, make sure you properly train with it before doing so.

Agree with 1:50 PM on the flashlight and pepper spray. If you've never owned or used a compact high intensity flashlight, they can be incredibly effective at blinding an attacker at night. I recommend Fenix, Nite Core, O Light or Streamlight. Surefire is nice, but overpriced for what you get vs. these other brands. Many flashlights are USB rechargeable and can also use disposable batteries. Get the highest lumens and candela specs you can for the size you can carry comfortably daily in a pocket. Many flashlights also have a strobe mode that can be very disorienting for an attacker as well. You immediately follow up with your pepper spray if necessary. The good thing about these defense tools is that you're able to safely use them from a standoff distance from your attacker.

It's time for police cameras and foot/bike patrols on these blocks. This cannot continue.

Outside Boards and Scooters? Is the scooter guy and his parrot OK!!! I appreciate getting jacked up in Bethesda is a serious matter, but folks that know the Streetery know the scooter guy and his constant shoulder companion.
