Watch out for falling ice, Bethesda high-rise warns

First, downtown Bethesda pedestrians had to beware of falling glass from new buildings. Now it's ice. The new 8001 Woodmont apartments has posted signs alerting pedestrians to the potential for falling ice and snow from the 18-story high-rise. It has not been confirmed if the love child of Zeus and the Snow Miser has rented a top floor unit.

Such a phenomenon is not unheard of in Bethesda. While there have been no warnings posted to inform the public, large shards of ice are known to fall in the River Road industrial area from the 850' tall Crown Castle-owned communications tower at 5202 River Road. Though it has been a topic discussed among landowners and workers in that area for years, it entered the official record in 2019, when Fox 5 moved to upgrade its equipment shelter below the tower specifically to protect it from falling ice.
All clear at the moment
