Chip City Cookies opening in Bethesda

Chip City Cookies
is opening a Bethesda location at 4939 Elm Street, in the Shoppes of Bethesda. That's the former Fancy Cakes by Leslie space. Now you'll be getting fancy cookies by Chip City, a chain that so far has been limited to New York and New Jersey. With a recent $10 million investment from Enlightened Hospitality, the chain has ambitious plans to grow to 40 locations nationwide by the end of this year.

The Shoppes of Bethesda location will put it uncomfortably close to Levain Bakery at Bethesda Row, another popular cookie chain that was also born in New York City. Chip City fits somewhere in-between Levain and Crumbl Cookies. It doesn't have as many new flavors at once as Crumbl does, but does have a menu that changes every week, with at least one limited-edition flavor. And sometimes great minds think alike, as Crumbl and Chip City have both sold an Everything Bagel cookie, for example. The cookie style at Chip City is more like Levain in proportions, tall and thick, whereas Crumbl cookies are generally wider and flatter than Levain's and Chip City's.

Chip City's interior and marketing design aesthetic is less slick than Levain and Crumbl, with more of a hand-drawn element to the signage and website graphics. Interior fit-out of Chip City is expected to begin in the coming weeks. The shop is anticipated to open by summer. This is exciting news for cookie lovers across Bethesda and Chevy Chase. Now if we could just get a Crumbl Cookies downtown or at Westbard Square, we'll be all set.

Looks pretty good but Levain is the best store bought cookie I've ever eaten.

I was the one that said nobody would buy an upsized muffin with no coffee for $5. Nothing but bundt. Now my baby comes home every week with multiples. She has her own bag that gives her a discount!
Wish these folks well. I could use some ice cream in my diet.
