A brief history of the blue lights 'predominantly on local police cars: Although the "light bars" affixed to the roofs of police cars are designed and intended to be 'stealthy,' originally DC's Police chief Ramsay (a few Chiefs ago, and one that had his own car stolen, btw) took.a trip to Israel and was impressed by how the Isreali police kept their presence know by leaving their stealthy light on. Ramsey, thought DC taxpayers should see their police presence and of course cops on patrol loved the idea since they inherently knew it would cut down on their responsibilities, workload, and report writing. Criminals could easily see the po-po far off and temporarily curtail their activities. Everyone knew it was a farce, but nevertheless, Montgomery County followed the easy path and adopted the same lazy procedure. Occasionally, you might see a MCPO without his light bar illuminated, but it's rare. We should commend them, as they might really be trying to stop crime by catching the peeps vs just wanting them.to go elsewhere or to another shift.

You Elrich voters got what you voted for. Congratulations.

This is as bad as Philadelphia. Woe toe the person who left jumper cables visible on Walnut Street. (You could not leave pots of flowers on your porch either. Not expected in Glen Echo!

How many cars total?

How many cars had forcible entry, versus how many which did not?

"One resident... found their car missing altogether" Just say "stolen", no need to sugar-coat it.

This is actually a very common occurrence. Between 1am-4am, our security cameras have caught people walking up and down the street at leastonce a week checking door handles. Time to get better night resolution and post their faces online.

Good thing there were no actual victims. Otherwise, we would have to endure
another police briefing resembling a 'Dutch Master's Cigars' commercial!

9:15, it's funny you compare us to Philly. The scoundrel that started the warning blue lights on squad cars is ex Chief Ramsey from DC. The notion that warning thugs about police presence, here in the States, was promoted by him, now he's Philly's 'top cop.' Go figure!

Sadly, Chief Ramsey is no longer head of the Philadelphia police.

I just hope he stays away from here.
