The Salt Line construction update at Bethesda Row (Photos)

The Salt Line
is still blocked off, and has coverings over the windows, but some progress on the highly-anticipated seafood restaurant at 4900 Hampden Lane at Bethesda Row is visible from the outside. Decorative wood shingles have been attached to part of the facade on the Hampden Lane side of the building. In additional Salt Line news, a liquor license hearing date for the restaurant has been scheduled for March 2, 2023 at 10:00 AM. The Salt Line is expected to open this spring.

Carjackings & reckless renegade dump truck operators at that intersection and surrounding block make that not the best location for a high end seafood establishment attracting those with unlimited disposable income to be near or to be opened.

Yeah, I agree with you Anonymous 11:59... Bethesda Row is basically a slum, and there's no way that neighborhood can support a two $$ seafood restaurant.

How will they ever sell their $17 fish sandwiches in that kind of neighborhood? Those dump trucks will scare everyone away!

The garbage trucks are, of course, all around that area, necessarily because of the very restaurants that would of course prefer not to have to, ironically,
see and smell them. Lots of traffic, especially on the adjacent streets compound the slow in and out of the typically leaking trucks. Restaurants could do a lot to mitigate that themselves, but the kitchens don't care about the bigger problem.
The real issue, 11:59 mentioned, the crime, compounded by the congestion will eventually, (like within 'existing lease life' i.e
., a few years), will effectively obsolete Old Bethesda, as we know it.
If our police continue to show no resolve or even effective presence Bethesda will be lost to the thugs, just as Silver Spring has been ruined. As an Aside: Elrich's naive distaste and disrespect for MC business is a topic for another day.

The abandonment by customers is slowly happening already! My compatriots in the community I live in have already given up and only venture in during the light of day, and even then less frequently and often just to meet and spend money elsewhere.
We think the county has pretty much put their resources into newly manufactured New Bethesda, three stops up the Red line. We should commission a study on how many businesses complete their leases, I bet it's abysmal.
