Anine Bing at 7243 Woodmont Avenue at Bethesda Row has reduced its hours of operation. The women's apparel boutique has lopped off an hour in the morning, and another in the evening, and will now be closed entirely on Sundays. Instead of 11:00 AM, the shop will open at 12:00 PM Monday through Saturday. It will now close at 6:00 PM instead of 7:00 PM Monday through Saturday.
The change is "temporary," according to Anine Bing. It's unclear if the decision was based on the moribund Montgomery County economy and flight of the rich, or is following the recent trend of cutting hours to avoid paying workers full-time salaries and benefits. The target shopping audience of a business on this schedule would be stay-at-home moms, retirees, and the unemployed for five out of the six days it is now open.
Longtime residents will recall that, in the past, Bethesda Row leases stipulated that retail tenants could not close before 9:00 PM. Clearly, that has changed. Whatever the cause, Bethesda seems to be retiring for the night earlier and earlier.

Like many businesses, maybe they're having problems finding staff.
