Montgomery County Councilmember Will Jawando (D - At-Large) has raised over $525,000 in 60 days for his Maryland U.S. Senate bid, his campaign announced Friday. The haul represented donations from over 1,300 individual donors, most of whom are Maryland residents, his campaign noted. Jawando faces an uphill battle in the money race, squaring off against self-funding multimillionaire Congressman David Trone, and Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, who touted a $1.7 million war chest ten days ago. As a result, Jawando is positioning himself to the left of those frontrunners, as Congressman Jamie Raskin successfully did against Trone in the 2016 Maryland 8th Congressional District race.
Raskin recently announced he would pass on the U.S. Senate race, much to Trone's relief. Jawando also sees Raskin's decision as clearing the left lane for his campaign.
“Over the past few months, a number of my good friends have speculated about running for Senate, but now we know there will be only one progressive in the race," Jawando said in a statement Friday. "I am proud to be that candidate, and grateful for all the support we have gained so far..There may be other candidates in this race who have more personal wealth and establishment support, but I am proud to be running as the only grassroots, true blue progressive. I couldn’t be more excited about where we are and I’m so grateful to everyone who donated."

To the "left" of Raskin...
Are Marylanders really this stupid? The answer, sadly, is yes getting the hypocrite Raskin. Like Hunter, it's good to be a Democrat.
This crop of MD Dems is rotten to the core no doubt. Look into Raskin as you mentioned. Jawando is really hard to believe. One of the biggest racists in the state. Thankfully, he doesn't have much of a chance. David Trone is no hero of the people but the likely heir to Cardin
10:53 This is all part of the left's race to the bottom. California is an example of what not to do but MC voters are party before common sense.
And over on another local media site, to my point, Trone just kicked in 10 million of his own money. Thankfully, he's not one of the MoCo nuts. That cake is baked. Next senator from MD, David Trone.
Jac, Jac, Jac, help me, please. David Trone. Improve upon WIKI if you can, but he doesn't read like he represents Bethesda anymore. If he gets to the Senate, then say goodbye to every freedom that I've supported over the last 50 years or so. He won't put Trump in jail where he belongs.
A clear case of TDS. Step back from the water pipe for a moment and compare just the criminal allegations between Trump and Biden. Then only thing keeping Brandon in office now is Kamala as she's arguably one of the biggest morons in DC, (well maybe Hank Johnson), and democrats know it.
Keep telling yourself that Bidenomics is everything they're selling because they need voters that don't possess any critical thinking.
All he has to do is promise to eliminate the requirement for driver licenses in the 'free state' and he'll win hands down. . .
Shanel,
Stay focused. Trone and his brother run the largest beer, wine and liquor retail store in the country. Therefore, he can kick in any amount of money needed to crush any opponent and he will. Secondly, he's a well known name and already serves on that hill. He'll simply move from one side of the Capitol to the other. Bank on it.
Is 7:08 referring to the censorship of opinions they disagree with as "freedoms they support"? Got it.
This is why I moved to Florida.
Here's Raskin's take of Brandon's bribery scandal over the weekend on CNN: Ignore direct paper trail evidence, direct testimony by several whistleblowers including those in the DOJ/IRS and blame it on "foreign interference".
The same mindless idiots that voted for Raskin will likely support Jawando. The clowncar always needs passengers with leftists providing the drones.
@7:08 - 50 years or so? Not much thought about cause & effect as liberals have been selling the same tonic for decades and it has yet to cure anything they've promised.
Trone won’t beat Alsobrooks in a Democratic primary. She’ll have enoigh money and at some point enough is enough. She probably doesn’t love having Jawando in the race but it won’t hurt her in the general to be “middle of the rosd”
The racist are out in full force.
4:23 - Middle of the road? My gosh! Alsobrooks (the name is immediately disqualifying) is awful and oversees one of the worst areas in the state. Dreaming if you think she beats Trone.
Hey JAC, I'm not saying he can't win or won't win, I'm saying being rich and influential aren't my ideal criteria for a Senator. I'm not censoring anybody, but I like that Robert keeps folks respectful on here. I think the tonic I like to drink has a little bit of everything. Don't get crazy on me left or right. Trump too crazy, Raskin OK, AOC hold on now.
Shanel,
That's a good take and I hear you. But that's all elections these days. The one who has the most funds usually wins. It takes millions even for state and local elections not to mention national.
JAC arguing that being named “Trone” is a qualification for Senate but “Alsobrooks” is not is reason 2,398,674 why it’s impossible to take anything he says seriously
Raskin outdid himself today once again proving what a partisan hack he really is. The hearings with the whistleblowers prove how the DOJ actually called Biden's legal team warning them not to cooperate when they're the ones supposed to be making sure that no one is above the law. Simply incredible.
Raskin represents everything that is wrong in Washington and Jawando will be no different. The fact that voters in the 8th district can elect someone who lacks even a whiff of integrity, (goes for his wife as well), just demonstrates how pathetic these people really are.
