Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to a fire at the Flats at 8300 apartment building at 8300 Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda just after 10:00 PM Monday night, July 24, 2023. The fire started on a stovetop in an apartment kitchen on the third floor. Personnel from Station 6 in Bethesda with Truck 706 and the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad were among those responding. The building was partially evacuated, with residents watching from nearby sidewalks.
MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer said that the building's sprinkler system had already extinguished the small fire by the time firefighters got into the apartment. Firefighters remained on-scene to exhaust smoke from the building.

This is the second fire in 5 months why?
My nickel bet is because nobody knows how to use a stove. All the bright young, ballcap-&-Spandex-clad things who move here are so utterly clueless they don't even know how to operate a range, so accustomed to eating out are they.
High density of idiots.
@6:13 I'm sure nobody over the age of 30 has ever accidentally caused a stovetop fire either. Your comment sounds bitter - perhaps you cannot pull off a ballcap and spandex and that is why? What an odd perspective to have on this situation.
Most likely an Air B&B'er or weed smoker.
So none of you smarter-than-everyone masters of your kitchen appliances ever fell asleep while cooking something? What a bunch of cranky moronic comments by typical anonymous keyboard warriors who would shrivel if anyone looked into their own lives. Grow up and stop being so angry and ugly online, life is short.
Time to ban electric stoves I guess? I mean, if it spares one 2nd degree burn, it's worth it - right Libbies?
@10:10 Pot, meet the kettle. To quote Sgt. Hulka, "Lighten up, Francis."
I’m glad to see folks cooking their own meals rather than eating McDonald’s or any other horrible food being promoted here.
This was fire started by a new resident who started to unpack and go out for dinner leaving the top stove on
Frankli managemt should review all appliance with new tenants and explain how a previous fire in April 2013 stated, including what to be mindful about including filters for the HVAC and how to properly clean out dryer vents
No one cares, very sad!!
There has been much water damage to many apts
6:07pm agreed. "If it saves one life" then we should ban all stoves. They simply get too hot.
This is the "save lives" philosophy used for a lot of dumb decisions around town, such as closing off half the lanes on little falls.
Spandex? Weed? Libbies? Saving lives? Did I stumble into a competition for dumbest comment? My vote is for 1:55.
@8:52 - The best comment EVER!
I think there’s a big difference between banning stoves and closing down a lane of a road to cars, don’t you?
