Jamaican Mi Crazy opening Saturday in Bethesda (Menu+Photos)

Just as reports of hurricane season begin from the Caribbean, Caribbean cuisine is arriving in Bethesda at Westfield Montgomery Mall. Jamaican Mi Crazy Caribbean Cuisine will open this Saturday in the mall's new Dining Terrace. It replaces another local eatery, Dumpling Dojo.

I brought back pictures of the menu (below - click to enlarge). They also have DG Jamaican Kola Champagne on the beverage list as a bonus, as well as Grace Tropical Rhythms Sorrel.

For the full experience, order the Jamaican Experience Platter for $13. Training ahead of Saturday's opening was underway at the restaurant Tuesday.

A nice decorative touch

Miss dumpling dojo's concept but they were too expensive. Looking forward to trying this. $13 is expensive too though for an eatery lunch.

This name is as silly as "Duck Duck Goose"

Silly name. True. The real concern about places like this is have they done any research or market testing that tells them people in this area will be attracted to a Jamaican menu. Adams Morgan, U Street corridor, Silver Spring. Maybe. But Montgomery Mall? I just don't know. If it's really, really good that will help. The other issue I see is the rent. It has to be high in that food court. This lady is going from a manageable food truck biz to high rent brick and mortar. May be worth a try. I think the food court is really nicely redone but too many options almost.

Why wouldn't Jamaican food be popular at Montgomery Mall? It's not like it is more exotic than Greek, Thai, Japanese, etc.

Because Jamaican food, which can be really good, is just not as common as those other ethnic cuisine's. Not saying it will be terrible and I hope it won't be. Simply saying these restaurants would be better served and have better chance of success if they did their homework before making the leap certainly from food truck to upscale mall. Maybe this lady did do some market research. Others have said too expensive for lunch. I disagree. Cava is nearly 10 bucks for a spicy lamb meatball pita and that's with no drink.

Well, those are certainly good points. Anyway, I'm interested to try the place.
