Banana Leaves Asian Cafe sets opening date in Bethesda

Banana Leaves Asian Cafe, the new restaurant located at 7816 Old Georgetown Road, will have its grand opening next Wednesday, July 26. The venture is related to the existing Banana Leaves cafe in Rockviile, and will feature Malaysian, Thai and Chinese cuisine. Gluten-free dishes will be available. Banana Leaves replaces the venerable North China Cafe, which closed in June.

Robert, stay on this story and you'll get the scoop on their closing before anyone else. I'll bet 20 bucks they don't last as long as the soup lady.

The reason you know it's related to Rockville because I was curious and looked it up.

@5:31 They'll definitely outlast the soup lady. They provide a wide range of food, not only 90% vegan dishes.

@6:01: Haha, yes. Agreed! Soup lady's options were so absurdly limited and niche that I just assumed she was a front for some sort of mafia operation.

So what's happening to the southern half of the building, which the previous restaurant vacated over a year ago?

"...will feature Malaysian, Thai and Chinese cuisine."

A South Asian restaurant? Awesome!

They wouldn't allow listing "lifelong Bethesda resident" as a job.
