Bethesda demolition update: 4733 Bethesda Avenue (Photos)

Well, it only took 11 months, but demolition of the office building at 4733 Bethesda Avenue is finally complete. There's still the debris to be hauled away. Then the JBG Companies can begin construction of a new office tower, 4747 Bethesda Avenue.

Demolition was complete by Friday.

But thanks for the reheated 2-day old Mickey D's fries.

10:11: Who cares? No other media outlet has even reported it yet.

That doesn't give you an excuse not report timely.
If everyone else jumped off a bridge, would you jump too? I'm sure your mother taught you that lesson. If she didn't, she should have.

Eegads, based on what I've been observing in comments, his mother probably taught him to own his own soul and not care about what other people think so much. That's why this guy gives opinion pieces that others are too sold out to voice. You may not like what he says or how he says it at times, but you know where he stands.

I like to think most decent folk have had it with professionals who politic to simply gain a name, line their pockets, and say whatever they think you want to hear... changing their stances as if they are underwear, depending on the audience. It's important to have someone in the driver seat that not only knows how to drive, but who knows where the heck they are going.

Sometimes. The best policy makers and history makers are not necessarily consumed with how popular or charismatic they seem. They know how and what to prioritize for the many, and they push through despite opposition.

There are worse things to be, 11:17. Talking cliche'd motherisms on a Sunday morning and wasting time simply for a chance to criticize the only hyper-local news site for Bethesda. Thanks, Robert, for your coverage. Sometimes it really is significant, and it has helped me time and time again in the work I in fact do.

"his mother probably taught him to...not care about what other people think so much."

In case you missed his comments, Robert Dyer is utterly obsessed with what other people think.

Not really. Robert Dyer's commentary is wildly inconsistent and self-contradictory.

Thanks for the update Robert, but let me add a few details.

The demo is not yet complete, as many lower level columns and beams are buried in the debris from the upper levels. The existing foundations and grade beams still need to be excavated before one would consider demo to be complete.

On a business leasing site, I noted that it was reported that they will remove the old building but will not "go vertical" with new construction until a tenant is located and signs a lease. Perhaps you could try to confirm this with JBG. I hope we don't have to look at a vacant fenced lot for very long.

If you would like to download a PDF of their proposed plans, with many unpublished renderings, just go to JBG's web site and look at leasing info for 4747 Bethesda. A PDF of their leasing brochure can be downloaded showing some very nice renderings, building sections, floor plans and lots of info on two proposed rooftop amenities. On level 4 over the Dean & Deluca, the propose a roof terrace for office tenants. On the top, a second large outdoor space is proposed with a fire pit, adjacent to an amenity space. A large 700 SF Erastus rant is proposed on Bethesda Avenue, just east of their two story high lobby. Also noted is that second level space over the Dean & Deluca as now labeled as office, and not a second level restaurant. I'm sure your readers would be interested to learn more about the building.

Near the Dean & Deluca space they are rapidly advancing construction of some planters located between the CCT at the outdoor dining area for D&D. Slabs are being poured under to support pavers adjacent to the storefront. I have not seen any work on the interior of the D&D at this point, but perhaps it is ongoing behind the temporary plywood barriers.

JBG also has a link where you can down load a two month look ahead schedule for demo and construction. It might help inform your reportage on this caper. That link does not suggest they are waiting for a tenant though...

Thanks again, and keep the good work to help us all stay informed!

Sorry, make that a large 7000 SF Restaurant...

Dyer needs to have his news handed to him on a silver platter.

2:16PM - You were on a roll, until you insulted 11:17 for posting that Dyer was being insulting. Way to sabotage your message.

Although just a typo, Erastus Rant sounds like a place some of us might like to hang out at...lets meet up at the Rant and critique some local councilmen.
