Bethesda demolition update: Apex Building (Photos)

Carr Properties has requested a sheeting and shoring permit from Montgomery County, which is related to excavation work, for the Apex Building at 7272 Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda. Meanwhile, the controversial closure of the sidewalk and right lane of southbound Wisconsin is currently being used as parking for construction vehicles. The building is being demolished to clear the way for a mixed-use redevelopment of the site.

It burns me up when I drive by this daily. They take a whole lane of the busiest road in Bethesda, and they are just parking one or two vehicles there.

Would be funny to create a page taking a photo of that space every day and track how often it's used for construction needs compared to just parking for worker's vehicles and so on. Or is there some webcam already pointed there like a MD SHA traffic cam for 355?

7:20 AM - there is an excavator using the lane in the very first picture. I don't think a worker just used it to commute there and parked it.

Wonder if they shut down lanes when demolishing buildings in downtown Fredricksburg?

@8:11 Elm Street is fully closed to traffic. Why not park the excavator over there instead?

Robert, did you ever contact the demolition contractor to ask them why they need to occupy the sidewalk and one lane of traffic?

lol. nice.

@9:27 I'm guessing he didn't. He was the first with the Leland Street closing report, but when the other website followed up a few days later, they had details about the supposed reason for the closure (though I'm skeptical) direct from MCDOT, which is key information.

12:20: Your "key information" is what we already knew - one or more residents wanted it closed, and the County went ahead and just closed it with no public process. In fact, MCDOT had no documentation to show them when they asked to see it. Illegal closure.

Why does our local government continue to lie to residents?

Was public process legally required?

Is there a requirement for MDOT to provide documentation?

1:41: Yes, and yes. I would also question where the money came from for the bollards.

Can you point out the laws? Not exactly taking your word at this point. ;)

Exactly. Whenever asked for a source to back up his claim.
