Starbucks construction permit requested at Pike & Rose
There have been rumors that the Starbucks at Pike & Rose might eventually relocate into the ground floor of the soon-to-open Canopy by Hilton hotel at the property. Now a construction permit has been requested from Montgomery County for a Starbucks at 11860 Grand Park Avenue, which is in the block of the hotel. It would be below the hotel's two-story event wing. If it ends up happening, I'm sure residents of the condos atop the hotel, and in The Henri across the street, will be delighted - especially on cold mornings like this.

Breaking news! You heard it here first!
Wait a minute, this isn't at night... WTF Dyer!?
8:13 - Not at night... also not this week, not this month, not this season. Note the green leaves on the tree and the construction barrels.
They might like it on a cold night but everyone else who doesn't live there won't. The current location is actually pretty easy to get in and out of. Parking hasn't ever been an issue. Moving it will be.
Looks like Dyer got scooped on some YUUUUUGE news out of Silver Spring this morning.
8:36: The real news was two big Wheaton stories on my East MoCo site, not Silver Spring. You're struggling, man, you're struggling. Big stories during the holidays, big stories during the Bomb Cyclone. Post & everybody else were 24 hours+ behind me the whole way on all those stories.
8:36: Did you really think Montgomery County government would leak the humiliating news they're losing yet another Fortune 500 to me? Trust me, you'll be hearing my take on the latest humiliating fiasco of the MoCo cartel. "Helpless Hans" et al have done it again. Heckuva job, Brownie!
Yeah it's the county's fault that the county's educated populace demands higher salaries than the pittance Discovery is sure to pay the workers in small-town Tennessee.
Plus this is Hogan's failure as much as it is the county's.
Wow with discovery leaving.
Guess it pays to play nice with others sometimes to get the news scoops first.
The announcement was from Discovery. Why would it depend on a "leak from the MoCoCartel"? And why would they feel the need to notify a random blogger as opposed to a recognized source of local news like NBC4?
Seems to me that the hotel is adding a Starbucks for the hotel. Two Starbucks within blocks is a proven model.
Any word on when or if Redwood is re-opening?
"Guess it pays to play nice with others"
Sounds like a Patch reporter to me.
@8:59 - Wait, are you comparing your coverage of a Caribbean restaurant opening and a gas station robbery to the news that Discovery Communications is leaving Montgomery County? Because that's what it seems like you're doing.
One could also call it narcissistic rage. He’s even unwilling to admit That WaPo and Bethesda Magazine coverage of Discovery trumps his walking the malls and talking pictures of closed stores.
Homicide Hunter which airs on Investigation Discovery is filmed in Knoxville, TN. It's the most popular crime re-cree on that channel... Coincidence? From Bethesda to SS to TN. WTF?
Before you further skew the news, acknowledge that Discovery Communications said the following (verbatim): “Maryland is good for business. MoCo is good for business.”
I was wondering why this story had so many comments. Should have known the council's merry band of defenders/Dyer stalkers would have their panties in a bunch deflecting on the Discovery failure.
Seen elsewhere:
Robin Ficker: "Discovery doesn’t appreciate the tax increase agenda pursued by our county elected officials."
Guest: "Yes, they're definitely moving the World HQ to NYC because they want to pay more in taxes. Great insights, Ficker."
LOL
10:35/12:46: The story was broken by Brad Bell of ABC7, as far as I can tell. He doesn't work for either of the media outlets you mentioned.
3:15: If it's so "good," why are they leaving? LOL
Terpsucka if you can’t tell the trolls here are merely yanking Dyer’s chain because of his illogical beliefs and not really defending the council, then it’s also going over your head.
Didn’t Ficker also get disbarred? Was it ethics violations or something? Someone recall what it was?
I think he was suspended once or twice? Not sure he was actually disbarred.
Joe Kenda IS the Homicide Hunter. IRL he had a 92% solve rate. Impressive...
Love that show. Filmed in Knoxville.
"In 1990, Ficker was publicly reprimanded by the Maryland Court of Appeals upon a finding that he had violated ethical rules prohibiting neglect, engaged in conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice, and lack of diligence. In March, 1998, he was indefinitely suspended from the practice of law, with the right to reapply for admission after 120 days, arising from violations related to competence, diligence, fairness to opposing counsel and parties, supervising lawyers and conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice. In August, 1998, he was privately reprimanded by the Maryland Attorney Grievance Commission for a violation related to competence. In January, 2002, he was privately reprimanded by the Maryland Attorney Grievance Commission for a violation related to client communications. Ficker was again indefinitely suspended from the practice of law in 2007. A dissenting judge in the latest suspension commented, "If disbarment is not warranted in this case for these types of issues, with a respondent with this history, it will never be warranted." Ficker's law license was reinstated on December 8, 2008."
just what this yuppy ass development needs - a starbucks
Is the new Starbucks on Rockledge Drive a full service Starbucks?
Oh wow. How does anyone vote for him after that??
The new Starbucks located at 6905 Rockledge Dr. has a big Starbucks sign, but seems to be a limited hours location operated by HSMHost at it's HQ. I've never seen it actually open.
Also, the new Starbucks located at 6905 Rockledge Dr. is NOT acknowledged on the Starbucks website - not even sure if it is open to the public (i.e., non-HSMHost employees)
The Starbucks at Pike and Rose (current location) is one of the best stores around. Great employees and a great manager.
I hope they leave the old store where it is currently located and jut add another store in the hotel.
Why mess with prefection ??
The Starbucks in Wildwood has gone way downhill in recent weeks - mobile orders not ready on time- total chaos. It would be nice if the Starbucks location on Rockledge Drive took mobile orders.
I agree, the current Pike&Rose one is great. Cabin John's pretty good. They're friendly enough at Park Potomac, but they make mistakes.
The Starbucks on Rockledge is now officially open 6:30-6:30 weekdays - limited hours on weekend.
Good to know. Thanks, 12:26PM
