The fountains in Veterans Park have been turned on for the summer. They are located at the memorial in the park, which is at the corner of Norfolk and Woodmont Avenues in downtown Bethesda. The memorial recognizes soldiers from Bethesda and Chevy Chase who died in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Gulf Wars.

Having just a 2-second GIF of the fountain would have been a much more effective use of images.
What day was this turned on? Was there any ceremony?
7:49: Friday. Never seen a ceremony for turning it on. If you turn off Compuserve for a minute, you might ponder that video has sound, unlike GIFs, old sport.
I had the sound on. It wasn't a positive experience. What was that weird little piece of "music"? A few lines from "The Star Spangled Banner" or "America The Beautiful" would have been more appropriate.

It would have been useful to note that the flag is flying at half-staff per Gov. Hogan "in honor of Officer Kyle Olinger, of the Montgomery County Police Department, who died on April 18, 2019 as a result of injuries sustained while in the line of duty 15 years ago."
Instead, your photos cut off the top of the pole, making it hard for readers to tell that the flag is actually flying at half-staff.
Also, the death of Officer Olinger last week deserves its own article.

I would love to hear you get a ringing endorsement of our National Anthem out of each of the 9 Councilmembers. As Fellow Travelers, they're unlikely to openly say they prefer "The Internationale," but let's see if you can get them to publicly endorse the "Star-Spangled Banner."

Maryland, and especially Hogan has no sovereign say how to fly the US Flag. He can order how the Maryland Flag is flown, not the National. What the hell is wrong with MoCo.. wait don't answer that. Damn carpet baggers like Hans et al.
6:07 - Governors of states (and territories) and the Mayor of the District of Columbia have the authority to order the US flag to fly at half-mast.
Governor Hogan is governor of Maryland, so I don't understand your comment about "MoCo", "Hans", etc.

I stand corrected. It's crazy though and diminishes the value. I read too the Mayor of DC has that authority. If the DC Mayor calls for it, all Federal buildings in DC must abide. Myself plus probably 99.9% of Marylanders have no idea who Olinger is. Hogan, the ultimate pandering RINO.

Well, if you read only Suburban News Network, you're certainly not going to learn who Office Olinger was.
A Montgomery County police officer shot during a traffic stop in 2003 died from his injuries last week, and flags across the state were lowered to half-staff on Monday in his honor.
Officer Kyle Olinger was paralyzed more than 15 years ago when 18-year-old Terrence Arthur Green shot him in Silver Spring.
Gov. Larry Hogan’s (R) office announced Monday an order for U.S. and Maryland flags to fly at half-staff until sunset on the day of interment.
"Lowering the flags is the least we can do to pay tribute to the life and memory of a true hero, Officer Kyle Olinger," Hogan said in a statement. "Our prayers are with his family, friends, and loved ones at this time of mourning. May he rest in peace."
Olinger died April 18. Police have yet to announce details for funeral services.
Olinger pulled over a Chrysler sedan carrying Green on Aug. 13, 2003, according to news reports.
Green reached for a gun, prompting Olinger to draw his own weapon. Green shot the officer and ran from the car.
Green was convicted by a jury in September 2004 of attempted murder, assault and using a handgun during a crime of violence, according to news reports. He was sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years.
Olinger, a former Marine, was confined to a wheelchair following the shooting.

5:44: I don't have a public domain audio file of patriotic music - are you a supporter of theft and copyright violations of intellectual property? No "slander" is possible when the Council members themselves will tell you they do not endorse or support our National Anthem. They are Fellow Travelers, after all...
