Marriott office building to top out in November, development partners say

Developers of the Marriott International headquarters and hotel report that the HQ office building will top out in November.  The hotel building has already topped out. Trenches are being dug along the street for telecommunications and signal duct banks that will be installed underground this fall.

They anticipate digging 50 feet of trench per day. On recent evenings, they have been working around the Tastee Diner, which remains open during construction. Marriott is relocating its existing Bethesda HQ near Montgomery Mall to this location at 7750 Wisconsin Avenue.

Thanks for the photos.

Looking at the renderings and the project webcam, you can see that the portion of the office building fronting on Woodmont, is already 19 stories tall, and topped out. The glass facade extends up another story to form a windscreen for the roof terrace, but the concrete roof is done. A dramatic two story high multipurpose room will sit on the top of the building in the middle of the site, facing the roof terrace on three sides.

The portion of the building on Eisconsin still has two more occupied floors to be built, a tall enclosed penthouse, and a tall two-story high angular glass feature at the SE corner, with large Marriott signage facing south.

Amazing how quickly this project is going up. I like how the white aluminum window frames create a very pristine and vertical facade, especially when viewed from a distance on Wisconsin. Just the opposite of the Elm and Wilson, which seems to be very dark and very bronze. Most of the glass is dark bronze, and the brick on Elm is dark grey. Very somber and dark tones, especially on the north sides.

I think the Marriott HQ and the hotel will be a striking addition to downtown.
