Work begins on construction of The Claiborne in Bethesda

After years of expectation, work has now officially begun on The Claiborne, a boutique luxury condo building that will rise at 4820 Auburn Avenue in downtown Bethesda. Excavation began Tuesday at the site. There are still some vacant buildings left to be demolished.

Thanks for the photos. It still amazes me that developers can play such a long game. At least two dozen unsold condos in the four newest projects are still available. I suppose these could be flipped to apartments, like they did at 7770 Norfolk.

Of course this project will take at least 2 years to build. It’s nice to see that some developers are willing to take a risk and to push forward in this economy and pandemic.

Any word on the mixed-use apartment tower at La Madeline? They were supposed to start construction in June.

I share your amazement at the long game!

7770 Norfolk was originally an apartment, flipped to condos, and then flipped back.

The last time there was construction around Gallery 1 (for the construction of Gallery 2), I got a year of free parking and 2 months' free rent. I imagine you can get better incentives this time around, especially with the people already moving out (buying houses or moving to bigger places)
