The Dark Side of White Flint, Part 46
Welcome to The Dark Side of White Flint, an ongoing series about the not-so-wonnerful, wonnerful, wonnerful side of urbanizing the suburbs of Montgomery County.
There is the first sign of activity in a long while at the former site of White Flint Mall, where a redevelopment plan has been stalled out by internal lawsuits, a moribund local economy, and Montgomery County elected officials' failed revitalization strategy for the area. I'm told the property owners intend to install more chain link fencing around the site. There already has been some fencing on the property following the demolition of most of the mall, but feisty remaining tenant Lord & Taylor was still in operation until late last year.

Lerner is to blame - period. They should sell to any number of competent developers who would eagerly take advantage of the site.
Watch Lakeforest and Montgomery be redeveloped before White Flint. That's how slow Lerner is moving, unfortunately.
@ 7:19 AM - Montgomery Mall isn't doing badly, although the owners have already planned for redevelopment starting with the Sears and next the Macy's Home.
My eyes are on Mazza Gallerie and the adjacent Lord & Taylor.
White Flint, Mazza Gallerie and Lakeforest all opened within a year of each other.
Why doesn't Lerner have temporary uses of the site? They regularly had events lol ke the circus this summer, fall festival, etc at their Lerner square empty lot at Tysons Metro.
What a disgrace this is.
MORIBUND!!!
We dassent leave a spot of land unbuilt upon. Hurry up and get cracking, so we can finish turning the lower county into a simulacrum of Crystal City.
Lakeforest had the potential to transition to what people want today. A mix of outdoor and indoor spaces would be ideal. Similar to Westfield's plan for Montgomery.
There's tremendous population living around lakeforest who are simply driving elsewhere.
I too wonder why the huge parking lots are not rented out for circuses or bazaars?
